Reimagined as a musical, the latest big-screen iteration of the beloved franchise has delivered results that have exceeded expectations.
Unwrapped on Christmas Day (December 25), the Blitz Bazawale-directed flick drummed up $18.1 Million at the US box office on its first day in theaters.
It’s the largest Christmas Day opening for a film since 2009 – and the second-biggest Christmas Day opening of all time.
The film also earned an A CinemaScore, 5 stars, and 92% positive audience feedback.
In performing as such, ‘The Color Purple’ bested ‘Aquaman 2’ ($10.6M) and ‘Wonka’ ($10.4M).
The early win for the film suggests it’s headed for a major debut weekend – which is oh-so-deserved!
