Angela Bassett has been a formidable force on screens – big and small – for more than three decades.
Fittingly, then, this year actress was bestowed with an honorary (and long-overdue) Oscar for delivering trailblazing performances across the length and breadth of her career. A career that continues to thrive today.
Stopping by the Tamron Hall Show this week, Bassett opened up about the win, the new season of her hit ABC series ‘9-1-1,’ and her desire to return to Broadway.

On wanting to get back to the stage, Bassett – who joked that she and husband Courtney B. Vance are about to be empty nesters – said:
“Theater is my first love. On the stage you go out, it’s you, the audience, every audience, every night, it’s different. There’s no cut and fixing it, it’s there in the moment, so I love it. [I’m] reading a lot of things now, you know, young, new playwrights, established playwrights, but maybe a new voice, that would be intriguing.”

Though most renowned for her performances on screen, Bassett made her Broadway debut in 1985 in ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ – turning in a stunning performance which earned her a Drama Desk Award nomination.
Thereafter, the performer went on to appear in other Broadway productions, such as ‘Macbeth,’ ‘Henry IV Part I,’ and ‘The Mountaintop’ alongside Samuel L. Jackson.
She didn’t win no Oscar. She got an honorary one after being a sore loser. I would have thrown that honorary Oscar back at them if I was her. If I can’t win I don’t want it.
And what have you accomplished in life b****?
She deserves to WIN and Oscar the right way!!! She needs another good project!
As others said, she didn’t “win” an Oscar, she was awarded an honorary one. Hopefully she will actually win an Oscar one day, as she deserves.
I’ll mimic everyone else here lol..I love me some her she deserves a real Oscar win she literally can do anything on screen. Happy she’s still winning but give our girl her real flowers!!
