Fans of two BET+ breakout comedies, ‘Average Joe’ and ‘Churchy,’ have a new reason to shout hallelujah as the streamer has revealed both original series are coming back for sophomore seasons.
Ahead of its linear debut on BET on November 5, BET+ unveiled news ‘Churchy’ is coming back for a second season.
Starring and produced by comedy sensation Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks, the hilarious and sometimes-not-so-holy series also stars Anthony Elfoniza, Mark J. P. Hood, Lexi Allen, London Solomon, and Shani Shockley.
“A heartfelt thank you to BET for their unwavering support, Lebron James’ SpringHill for their amazing partnership, and to our incredible audience for tuning in and making this journey possible,” Fredericks said in a statement. “The cast and I can’t wait to bring you even more comedy and a bigger, better show.”
The ‘Churchy’ news follows reports ‘Average Joe,’ the Deon Cole-led dark comedy series, was also renewed for season 2 by BET+.
Ranked the #1 scripted show on the streamer in its debut week, the inaugural success run of ‘Joe’ – which also stars Tammy Townsend, Malcolm Barrett, Ashley Olivia Fisher, Pasha Lychnikoff, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Michael Trucco, and Ashani Perkins – was only amplified after it was made available on Netflix.
“We congratulate the amazing writers, cast, crew, and our production partners for creating such a captivating first season,” said Scott Mills, President and CEO (BET Media Group) at the time of the ‘Joe’ renewal announcement. “’Average Joe’ is a masterclass in storytelling – a thriller anchored in authenticity, friendships and family drama, spiked with perfectly timed moments of humor – all of which resonated tremendously with viewers. We are excited to see where the second season will take us.”
At the time of this report no official season 2 premiere date is attached to either venture.
