‘Love Island USA’ contestant Cierra Ortega has sensationally been axed from the villa after old videos of her using anti-Asian slurs resurfaced and now, her family is stepping in to defend her.

The 25-year-old content creator mysteriously vanished from Sunday night’s episode, with the show citing a “personal situation.” But online, it was anything but quiet. A 2015 clip of Ortega making derogatory comments about Botox and Chinese people went viral, triggering widespread backlash.
Her parents took to her Instagram story, calling the past week “one of the most painful weeks of our lives.” While not excusing her actions, they did say:
“When she returns, we believe she’ll face this with honesty, growth and grace. Until then, we’re simply asking for compassion. For patience. For basic human decency.”
Former islander Belle-A Walker, who is Asian American, said the posts left her “heartbroken,” while ‘Bachelorette’ star Jenn Tran labeled Ortega’s comments “inexcusable.”
This marks the second racial controversy this season, following Yulissa Escobar‘s exit who use a racial slur on a podcast in 2021.
