The fashion-forward ‘Devil Wears Prada 2‘ sewed up the weekend by earning $43 million in North America75.8 million overseas, bringing its global total to a staggering $433.2 million.
That means it has already surpassed the entire lifetime run of the original 2006 film ($327 million) in just two weekends.
Mortal Kombat II finished second, debuting at $40 million domestically 63 million globally despite predictive tracking services initially showing it coming ahead of ‘Prada 2.’
So what happened? Expert analysts point to Mother’s Day – a holiday weekend that gave a female-centric film a clear advantage compared to ‘Kombat 2’ which skewed heavily male (73% according to reports.
In fact, the Anne Hathaway-starred flick is becoming the biggest female-driven release since ‘Barbie’ in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Michael Jackson biopic Michael earned $36.5 million in its third weekend, giving it the title of top-grossing music biopic of all time in North America.
