During a recent appearance on the ‘Girl Dad ‘podcast alongside Kyla Pratt, Flex Alexander revealed that he has spent the last 12 years pitching a reboot of the beloved early-2000s sitcom.
Full story below…
The series, which premiered in 2001 and ran for five seasons, became a fan favorite thanks to its father-daughter dynamic and standout cast that included Kyla Pratt, Robert Ri’chard, Ray J, Omar Gooding, Kel Mitchell, Brandy, and more.
Reflecting on the journey to bring the show back, Flex shared that he has been working behind the scenes for over a decade and has come close to securing a deal several times.
Flex added:
“I’ve been trying for 12 years. We’ve been close. We’ve been there. Bob, Dave, come on now. Come on now”
Kyla Pratt said she would be open to revisiting the series, but only if the story is told the right way. The actress explained that any reboot would need to meet a high standard and offer a fresh, meaningful direction for the characters.
Pratt shared:
“If it’s for me, you know, this Virgo perfectionist issue that I have, it has to be great. It has to be perfect, you know. But there are so many different things that we can do with it”
Flex also pointed to the success of other television reboots, noting that shows that had a major cultural impact deserve the opportunity to return for a new generation. Both stars agreed that if a reboot is going to happen, it should happen sooner rather than later.
The possibility of ‘One on One‘ returning remains alive. Whether executives finally make it happen remains to be seen, but Flex and Kyla are making it clear that the conversation is far from over.
