Laverne Cox is opening up about a past relationship. Specifically, the actress revealed on The View that she dated a MAGA-aligned NYC police officer.

Cox appeared on the show to promote her new memoir, Transcendent. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin asked what her biggest lesson from the relationship was. Laverne responded:
“People show you who they are eventually.”
She explained that the relationship started positively. Cox continued:
“When it started out, there was a beautiful, amazing guy who treated me better than anyone I’d ever met.”
However, she later discovered his job and that he had lied about his career. By then, she had already developed deep feelings for him.
“The political affiliation became obvious, but I’d already had feelings for him. I wanted to see him as a human being beyond that.”
After three and a half years, she made a decision. Cox added:
“I love him, but I love myself more. Staying in this relationship betrayed myself.”
Cox noted that it was ultimately a difference in personal values, not just politics, that led to the breakup.
Cox previously spoke about the relationship in 2025. She acknowledged that some fans would never forgive her. Nevertheless, she chose to share her truth in her memoir.
