In an interview with Attitude, Cox revealed that college speaking engagements have dried up. She explained that she never expected those opportunities to disappear. She also noted that corporations have become scared due to the administration’s punitive stance on DEI and gender ideology.
Consequently, Cox has had to dip into her retirement savings. Laverne said:
“The blessing is that I finally have the privilege to have a retirement fund to dip into, but you don’t really want to do that.”
The Guardian reported that Cox has lost 90 percent of her income. She pointed to hosting contracts ending and fewer opportunities in academia. She also questioned what the financial impact means for less privileged members of the transgender community.
Trump’s latest term has included executive orders restricting certain DEI initiatives and limiting federal recognition of gender identities beyond male and female.
Despite the challenges, Cox has chosen to speak her truth. She recently released her memoir, ‘Transcendent,’ on June 9. She previously told PEOPLE that she feels a sense of worthiness after everything she has gone through.
