As of this week, ‘Michael’ has amassed approximately $846.3 million at the global box office, further cementing its status as a worldwide phenomenon.
The movie now sits just behind ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, the Queen biopic centered on Freddie Mercury, which concluded its theatrical run with roughly $911 million worldwide.
With less than $65 million separating the two titles, industry analysts are increasingly forecasting that ‘Michael’ could overtake its rival and become the highest-grossing music biopic in history.
The momentum is certainly there. The film added more than $58 million globally over the last seven days alone.
Much of that success has been fueled by international audiences, with nearly 60 percent of the movie’s earnings coming from territories outside North America. The performance underscores the enduring global impact of Jackson’s catalog and cultural influence.
The film stars Jaafar Jackson in the title role and marks another triumph for producer Graham King, who also produced ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’
At its current pace, ‘Michael’ appears poised to make box office history sooner rather than later.
