The world of ‘Lanterns’ may be powered by cosmic forces, but Kyle Chandler and Kelly Macdonald are helping keep HBO’s new DC series firmly grounded.

That Grape Juice caught up with the stars, who dished on the latest addition to the  DC Universe, the complicated characters at the heart of its Earth-based mystery, and the chemistry that fuels the show’s more human moments.

Speaking with TGJ’s Samuel Eni, Chandler opened up about taking on veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan and exploring the man behind the power ring, particularly as Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart enters his orbit and challenges the status quo.

Macdonald, meanwhile, unpacked the no-nonsense Sheriff Kerry Kane and the character’s intriguing dynamic with Hal, with the pair bringing plenty of friction and personality to the show’s central investigation.

The duo also reflected on the purposefully grounded approach to ‘Lanterns,’ which blends its superhero DNA with the feel of a character-led crime mystery.
