Days after the 36-year-old was found unresponsive in South Carolina, police are reportedly examining whether any criminal conduct could have played a role in her passing.

According to TMZ, Greenville police are conducting a death investigation alongside the coroner’s probe because Panettiere’s passing was considered “unexpected” given her age.
It’s of note that the development does not mean authorities have determined that a crime occurred.
Rather, investigators are said to be looking more closely at the circumstances surrounding her shocking death while awaiting definitive medical answers.
Per the report, officers visited the family home of Panettiere’s on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, on Wednesday. Sources say police are seeking information from him about circumstances that could potentially be relevant to the investigation.
It marks a notable shift from the initial findings, which indicated there were no signs of trauma or foul play.
An autopsy has since been completed, but Panettiere’s official cause and manner of death remain undetermined while toxicology results are pending.
Her body has been released to her family.
