The beloved world of ‘Ted Lasso’ is back for Season 4, and a new team is stepping onto the pitch.

Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, and Abbie Hern join the Apple TV hit as Boots, Lizzie, and Gemma, as the series expands its focus to Richmond’s second-division women’s football team.

That Grape Juice‘s Nadia caught up with the newcomer cast to talk joining the Emmy-winning phenomenon, the instant chemistry between the new players, and the real-life issues Season 4 is bringing onto the field.

While the trio are all smiles now, stepping into an established phenomenon came with understandable nerves:

“Scary but exciting. There’s always an element of nerves stepping onto a new set anyway.”

At the same time, joining a show that already knew exactly what it was proved reassuring too. As the ladies explained, there was comfort in arriving on a set where the creative rhythm was firmly in place, even if that brought its own pressure not to disrupt the winning formula.

“Everyone knows what they’re doing, but then it comes with an element of like, ‘I don’t want to be the one to mess it up.’ There’s already a bar there.”

Off camera, however, the adjustment appears to have been seamless. The cast quickly formed a close bond during filming and revealed that the friendship has continued long after cameras stopped rolling:

“In a rare way, all of us get on, which is kind of spooky. We’re all in LA and it’s like a girls’ holiday, and the group chat is still strong as well.”

So close, in fact, that the actresses jokingly dubbed themselves something of an unofficial romantic unit:

“We are all in love, we’re all married actually… we’re in a throuple. We’re in a throuble.”

The laughs sit alongside a more meaningful new dimension for ‘Ted Lasso’, with the latest chapter shining a light on women’s football at a time when the sport’s profile continues to surge:

“Women’s football is massively on the up and I think we’re exposing elements of the game that need more work, i.e. pay, i.e. locker room quality.”

For Mack, that new world also provides plenty of room for Boots to evolve:

“Letting her grow into a team player, that is something that I’m excited about. I think being taught how to be a team player is her thing.”
