Today, we revisit 1972 to celebrate ‘Lady Sings the Blues’, the Billie Holiday biographical drama loosely based on her 1956 autobiography.
Starring Diana Ross, the movie told Holiday’s painful tale following her passing in 1952 and saw Ross portray the performer with support from her co-stars Richard Pryor, Billy Dee Williams, Virginia Capers and Paulene Myers.
The movie stood as one of many film projects launched to propel Ross into Hollywood and was nominated for five Academy Awards after picking up $19,726,490 at the Box Office with support from a $14 million budget.

Tyler Perry‘s Madea franchise is back and heading to movie theaters.
‘Boo! A Madea Halloween’ hits the big screen on October 21st and is billed as sees the much loved matriarch spend “a hilarious, haunted Halloween fending off killers, paranormal poltergeists, ghosts, ghouls, and zombies while keeping a watchful eye on a group of misbehaving teens.”
Perry will write, produce, direct, and star in the film – the origins of which date back to when Perry and Chris Rock conspired to include a spoof Madea Halloween movie in Rock’s film ‘Top Five.‘ Thereafter, Lionsgate approached Perry to make the movie for real.

After wielding an “official statement” on Sunday, the story was sent into overdrive after Braxton’s former assistant took to Twitter to pop all the way off on his take on “the real reason” the singer was let go. Following his rant, her fans – affectionately christened #Tamartians – went on the attack by slamming her co-hosts Loni Love and Jeannie Mai.
