Over the years, That Grape Juice has established a distinguished voice that – whether loved or loathed – sparks discussion, debate, and on occasion drama!

Though comprised of seasoned writers who share a similar outlook on Urban Pop culture, the idiosyncrasies of the TGJ team members often lend for quite heated debates “behind the scenes” about the hottest topics.

Now, we give you a front row seat to the show. In a format similar to ‘The View’ or ‘The Real’, TGJ editors – Sam, David, Rashad, and Joe – get real in a very candid way.

Today’s roundtable topic asks…

…and the claws are out!

Mo’Nique may have been coy last week as she took to CNN to defend herself from ‘Empire’ director Lee Daniels’ claims of her “diva” behavior, but this week we got to see a bit more of the sharp-tongued Mo we’re used to.

Hot on the promo trail for her new independent film ‘Blackbird,’ the jet-setting actress landed on ‘Good Morning America’ today to discuss her alleged “black-balled” status.  As ever, she kept it all the way real!

As careful editing sees NeNe Leakes unofficially demoted to supporting status, her ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ co-star Cynthia Bailey finds herself taking centre stage this season…for all the wrong reasons.

For, thanks to moves made by the Reality TV star in the show’s latest episode, she has been blasted by social media users for the part she played in spreading a rumour about fellow ‘Wife’ Phaedra Parks.

As not to spoil the episode for those who haven’t seen it we won’t say what the rumour was, but hit the link below to discover why Bailey may have taken Kenya Moore’s spot as the show’s resident fire starter.

Call it a comeback…

Maybe.

Will Smith is back atop of the US box office this week, after new movie ‘Focus’ bested the competition and debuted at #1. However for some critics, the film’s performance doesn’t mean Smith’s career is out of the woods just yet.

shonda-rhimes-that-grape-juice-finding-my-roots-

After Oprah Winfrey learned she had roots in the West African country of Liberia, the writer Shonda Rhimes seeks to discover hers with the help of the PBS series ‘Finding My Roots’ this year.

She took to Twitter to announce the news this morning, sharing:

Her journey to the past will air on PBS this fall and will make her the latest African-American public figure to use a TV special to uncover the truth about their hidden past.

Indeed, NBC’s ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ helped the actress Vanessa Williams and the singer Lionel Richie learn of their blood ties to the transatlantic slave trade, and helped Blair Underwood trace his lineage all the way to Cameroon where he still has living relatives.

An air date for Shonda’s story is yet to be announced.

Mo’Nique has been a fixture in the headlines of late following her controversial interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

As widely covered, the ‘Precious’ star revealed that she was told by the movie’s producer, her friend Lee Daniels, that she had been “blackballed” by Hollywood.

The story has ignited ample debate, with several entities that have worked with the Oscar winner coming forward to share their difficult encounters with her and her team and citing them as reasons for her snub for the “powers that be”.

Yesterday saw the discussion crank up a notch when Daniels (who is enjoying success with new show ‘Empire’) stopped by CNN studios to elaborate on what he meant. Denying that he used the word “blackballed” when speaking with the star, he would verbatim state that Mo’Nique ultimately blackballed herself due to difficult demands from her management.

Today brought with it a fresh twist when the actress/comedian spoke with Don Lemon about the matter.

Interestingly, she clarified that she doesn’t feel she was blackballed. Instead, she asserts there weren’t demands and that the deals that came in following ‘Precious’ weren’t financially befitting.
