After being slammed in the past for its lack of diverse cultural representation, the Golden Globes bounced back with a vengeance Tuesday night (January 10) – not only boasting a slew of performers of color nabbing major awards but also putting the cherry on top by appointing openly gay, African American comedian Jerrod Carmichael to serve as host.
And while many are celebrating the positive steps the Globes have taken toward diversity and inclusion, others are wagging their fingers at the comic for inappropriate and distasteful jokes – particularly one aimed at the late Pop icon Whitney Houston.

Sunday (January 10), the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles to honor the year’s best and brightest in film and television via its first televised ceremony since 2020.
With the curtains now closed and the credits rolled, tuck in below to find out who walked away with the coveted trophies from the night’s showing.
In 2022, Zendaya – thanks to her critically acclaimed portrayal of “Rue Bennett” in HBO’s hit series ‘Euphoria‘ – made EMMYs history when she not only became the first Black woman to win Lead Actress in a Drama Series for a second time but also the youngest two-time winner of any EMMY category ever (as we reported here).
Now – courtesy of a victory at the 2023 Golden Globes (which aired January 10) – the multi-talented diva seems poised to extend her award show domination to yet another top industry ceremony.

After the Golden Globes canceled its 2022 edition due to a scandal lifted after it was discovered there were few members of color on its voting committee, the 2023 ceremony – which aired Tuesday night (January 10) – apparently looked to distance itself from its controversial past by increasing the diversity among winners.
The remedy came in many forms including longtime revered African American actress Angela Bassett capturing the night’s Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture trophy and celebrated Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh snagging the Best Supporting Actress in a Movie Musical or Comedy statuette.
In that stead, two of the evening’s most talked about winners were ‘Abbott Elementary’ stars Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams – who both made history for their groundbreaking performances in the hit ABC comedy.

Because Angela Bassett is one of the most revered actresses in movie and television history, her mantel has certainly made room for some of the entertainment industry’s most prized awards over the last three-and-a-half decades.
However, despite critical acclaim for portraying the likes of “Bernadine Harris,” Katherine Jackson, Rosa Parks, and many others over the years, major industry honors (i.e. EMMY, Academy Award, etc.) have often eluded her – much to the chagrin of her dedicated legion of fans.
The first step in righting that wrong may have come Tuesday night (January 10), however, when the 64-year-old captured the second Golden Globe of her career.
Jeremy Pope takes center stage in A24’s powerful drama ‘The Inspection.’
Inspired by the real-life experiences of Elegance Bratton, the film follows the character Ellis (played by Pope) as he navigates homophobia while away at Marine boot camp – and back home with his mother (Gabrielle Union).
Pope’s piercing, potent performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor and is generating plenty of Oscar buzz too.
That Grape Juice‘s Chet Kincaid caught up with the Flordia native, who opened up about his personal connection to the narrative and its broader importance – especially in today’s climate.

However, she’s now addressed the confusion by revealing that the lack of prenup is the cause of the arguable chaos.

Yet, true to form, she remained candid when questioned about the drama with Daly, who is a New York-based restauranteur.
