Beyonce has an established flair for surprises and she sprung an almighty one on the masses tonight with the announcement of a ‘Lion King’ companion album.

Christened ‘The Lion King: The Gift,’ the multi-artist LP will feature all new music from Queen Bey who curated and executive produced the project.

But that’s not all. Because ahead of its July 19th arrival, the star has premiered new song ‘Spirit.’

Written and produced by Bey alongside IIya and Labrinth, the soaring number not only appears on ‘The Gift’ but also on the official soundtrack for the movie. It’s touted as playing at a pivoting point for Nala in the film.

The songbird, who has made an enviable habit of nesting at the top of the charts, glows in the Annie Leibovitz lensed shoot for the August issue of the fashion bible.

And while her photos make for an arresting sight, her candid interview proved equally engaging.

During the frank feature, the 26-year-old opened up about the “character” she channels as she navigates Pop stardom, her more adult lyrics, Manchester, and being bold enough to make (and release) the music she truly wants.
