Usher‘s name has been a staple in the headlines over the last two weeks following herpes allegations and lawsuits gone public.

In a move many have scratched their heads at, the R&B star has made no comment. At all.

Now, it’s looking as though he may let the music do the talking. Specifically new music.

Lady GaGa‘s efforts to support her Pop peer Kesha have rubbed Dr. Luke, the producer Kesha accused of raping her, the wrong way.

Vexed by the ‘Love Game’ player’s backing of her chart sister during her battle against him, Luke has now sent his legal wolves out on a mission to get her and bring her to what he believes is justice.

TMZ reports:

The hot topic Luke wants her to open about is a text message convo between Kesha and Gaga. According to the docs, obtained by TMZ, the texts include Kesha saying she’d been abused by Luke, and imploring Gaga to join a “smear campaign against [Dr. Luke].” Luke says that campaign included Gaga urging Sony Music to cut ties with him, and promoting “Free Kesha” on social media.

The hit-maker’s team subpoenaed GaGa to gain access to the texts but were infuriated when the documents they received were so doctored they were difficult to read.

Now, he wants a judge to force the singer to send him the original version of the text messages she sent to Kesha and hopes doing so will help to clean up his now tarnished reputation.

R. Kelly isn’t letting a scandal rain on his racy parade.

The singer has been at the centre of sex cult allegations following an investigative piece by BuzzFeed, in which he was accused of “imprisoning” young women against their will.

In the weeks since, the 50-year-old has maintained his innocence and branded the allegations as “crap.”

Now, in a brazen move, the singer is proving that his concerts have lost none of their sexually charged ‘Vibe.’

Performing last night in Virginia, he persisted with his raunchy antics including a call for fans to grab his “junk” – which they did.

Little Mix have announced plans to break into the world of film after group member Jade Thirwall lost out on the chance to portray Princess Jasmine in Disney’s live-action ‘Aladdin’ reboot.

Jesy Nelson spoke openly about their plans in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

We’ve thought about it a lot. We are in talks about it, it has just got to be right. We have got some proper class footage that no one has ever seen. It’s stuff that you’d never see Little Mix be like.

A documentary by the band would support their next album and the era they’d ignite to support it and see them follow in the footsteps of a number of their peers who have also released tell-all movie projects.

Welcome back to TGJ Replay!

Designed much like our ‘Retro Rewind’ and ‘From the Vault’ features, ‘Replay’ is That Grape Juice‘s newest reflective segment to act as a written quest to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday. Unlike its TGJ retrospective predecessors, ‘Replay’ looks to dust off and showcase entire albums (and eras) from a library of pop and Urban pop music hits.

This week, on its 25th birthday (July 28),  we’ll ring up Mary J. Blige‘s debut album – ‘What’s the 411?’

Kendrick Lamar just sprung a surprise on fans – the video for ‘LOYALTY’ featuring Rihanna.

The track has emerged as a fan favourite from his double Platinum ‘DAMN’ album and looks set to cement said status with the arrival of its cinematic visual.

Acclaimed director Dave Meyers takes the helm of the clip and delivers in earnest.

By no means a run of the mill collaboration, both K.Dot and RiRi commit to the narrative which casts them as lovers.

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, just as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This time we’ll highlight ‘Sometimes’ – the second single from Britney Spears‘ 1999 debut album, ‘Baby One More Time.’ With big shoes to fill given the mega-success of its chart-topping, platinum predecessor ‘Baby One More Time’ (the song), ‘Sometimes’ came as a mid-tempo groove that, like most of its parent album, borrowed elements of Eurodance and Europop in its composition.  Not exactly an out of the box success like ‘Baby,’ ‘Sometimes’ went on to eventually nab top 30 status before being halted at #21 on the Hot 100.

This week 18 years ago the tune maintained its #21 peak.  Tuck in below to see if you can spot any familiar faces who joined the Southern belle in the top 25 this week in 1999:

Up until now R. Kelly has only responded to his latest scandal via a rep.

But R&B’s self-declared Pied Piper is finally ready to speak up and out.

As widely reported, the 50-year-old formed the focus of a major exposé by BuzzFeed, whose investigative piece alleged that he’s running a sex cult comprised of young women.

Undeterred, the episode hasn’t halted the singer’s touring efforts. In fact, some reports suggest ticket sales have actually surged.

Still plugging away, Kelly’s clap-back took place during a promotional push for East Coast dates.

His words await below…

Ne-Yo is back.

The R&B crooner has unwrapped the video for ‘Another Love Song’ – the lead single from his seventh studio album ‘Good Man.’

A markedly “Ne-Yo” affair, the quirky visual sees the singer-songwriter dancing up a storm during a brief break from a date.

In an era where male singers are increasingly skewing more rapper with their everything, it’s great to see this performing gentleman stick to his formula.

SZA‘s reign as Contemporary R&B’s new Queen continues this year with the success of her single ‘Love Galore.’

Sales of her debut set ‘CTRL’ have been extremely modest but this stands as a far cry from its single ‘Galore’ which is making monumental moves for the entertainer on a financial front.

How so?

‘Galore’ earned a handsome $39,334 in the last week thanks to $34,476 generated from streams and $4,858 picked up from pure sales in the United States alone.

An impeccable feat, the cut’s digital run will spell good news for her label Top Dawg Entertainment who saw its parent album impact the Billboard 200 with sales of 25,000 units and undoubtedly have their sights set on its follow-up.

“I’m getting a little tired of your broken promithes promithes” – Queen Kiely Williams, 2000.

As September nears, so too does the start of the infamous Q4.

That tried and true window where campaigns are kicked off with a view to capitalise on the generous buying climate of the Holidays. Promotional platforms are plentiful and the potential for revenue maximisation is a very real reality for record labels.

It’s also a time during which fans begin to raise hopeful eyebrows at their faves who’ve promised new projects but have yet to deliver.

Historically, it’s proven that many of these LPs don’t arrive on time – or even at all.

However, we can only wait with bated breath. While we do, grab some tea and biscuits and join us below as we countdown 5 albums we want to see before the year’s end!
