The trailer for ‘Karen’ has arrived.

Led by Taryn Manning in the titular role, the film centers on a racist, an entitled woman in the south named Karen White who terrorizes her new African-American neighbors. She makes it her goal to force out the new kids from her neighborhood by any means necessary.

It takes its name and thematic inspiration from the countless “Karens” who went viral in recent years.

Coke Daniels is on board as director and says he hopes the film presents a fresh perspective on various topics – particularly race relations in America and social justice.

Set for a September release on BET, ‘Karen’ also stars Cory Hardrict, Duane FinleyDawn HalfkennyJasmine Burke, and Gregory Alan Williams.

As this week marks the 18th anniversary of Beyoncé’s debut album ‘Dangerously In Love,’ From The Vault is back today saluting infectious classic – ‘Naughty Girl.’

Released as the last single from the set in 2003, ‘Girl’ was written by Bey alongside Scott Storch who also produced the track. It’s built around an interpolation of Donna Summer’s disco classic ‘Love To Love You Baby.’

The diva declares that she’s “feeling sexy” and is ready to become the object of her desire’s naughty girl.

Commercially, the tune was yet another global hit for Queen Bey peaking at #3 in the US, #2 in Canada, #9 in Australia, and #10 in the UK.

The 1950´s inspired video was directed by Jake Nava – the very man behind the visuals for the album’s first two singles. With its cabaret and burlesque theme, it is reminiscent of the work of Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse, and other entertainers of that era.

Adding to the spectacle, Beyoncé was joined by Usher in select dance sequences.

The visual won Best Female Video at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards. Deservingly.

*************

As the singer has often pointed out, it’s crazy to think that some at her label didn’t initially believe the project had legs. Because, 18 years later, it’s proving that it has many.

‘Naughty Girl’ and its parent album presented a more sensual side to Yoncé, but still retained that flair the world fell in love with during her Destiny’s Child days.

This release in particular also ushered in a whole new persona for the artist, one which put more emphasis on showmanship and visuals. The rest, as they say, is history.

We’re ready for the next chapter whenever Bey’s ready!

A day before Juneteenth was commemorated as a federal holiday for the first time in its 156-year history, ABC celebrated the occasion with a stirring tribute TV special – “Juneteenth: Together We Triumph – A ‘Soul of a Nation” (June 18).

The two-hour televised event – which featured appearances from the likes of former President Barack Obama, Michael Strahan, Leslie Odom, Jr., and many more – also was rocked by roof-raising performances from the likes of Chloe (of Chloe x Halle fame) and H.E.R.

The latter – hot on the promo trail in support of her long-awaited debut album ‘Back of My Mind’ – delivered a particularly riveting performance of her Academy Award-winning song ‘Fight For You’ (which was originally featured on the ‘Judas & the Black Messiah’ soundtrack).

Look inside to see how she fared.

While some argue Chloe Bailey came out swinging for the inaugural performance of her first official solo release, a remake of Nina Simone classic ‘Feeling Good’ (found on the  ‘Liberated / Music For The Movement Vol. 3’ EP which can be streamed here), others slammed the young songstress for a showing chock-full of choreography many deemed provocative and ill-fitted for the occasion.

Easily lending the most talked about moment from ABC’s ‘Juneteenth: Together We Triumph’ (#SoulofANation) TV special Friday night (June 18), Bailey’s hip-winding, dipping, and popping even garnered mixed reviews from within the Simone estate.

Moments after the late icon’s official Twitter handle delivered a tweet-and-delete suggesting disapproval of the performance, Nina’s granddaughter hopped online to defend Chloe.
