Tamar Braxton has weathered several storms and is projecting light in surprising directions.

Five years have passed since the singer’s acrimonious departure from ‘The Real’ and, as covered here on That Grape Juice, the fiery fall-out saw her take aim at a number of her co-stars – citing backbiting and betrayal.

Now, though, the songbird is singing a different tune. One that’s much more positive.

Today’s From The Vault pick is a song that has undeniably etched itself deep in the minds of the masses 15 years ago.

This week’s selection is Amy Winehouse’s unapologetic single, ‘Rehab.’

While recording material for her sophomore set with Mark Ronson, Winehouse told him the story of that one time her dad tried to talk her into attending a rehabilitation center in a bid to overcome her alcohol addiction issues. Her producer friend was then inspired to turn that tale into a song.

Released as the lead single from legendary LP ‘Back To Black,’ ‘Rehab’ was the British belle’s breakthrough single. Already a critics darling on home soil, it transformed her into a global phenomenon and firm chart fixture. It reached the 7th position of the UK Singles Charts and peaked at #9 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Phil Griffin directed the song’s music video. It follows the songstress as she wakes up in the morning, attends a therapy session, and, eventually, ends up in rehab – contrary to the lyrics. She is constantly backed by her band throughout the various presented locations.

The visual was nominated for Video of the Year at the 2007 MTV Music Video Awards, but lost out to Rihanna’s blockbuster ‘Umbrella.’

15 years on, this track remains a bonafide classic. What’s more, Winehouse – fueled by songs such as ‘Rehab’ – is now considered amongst the best singers to have ever rocked the mic. Despite having a career that lasted less than a decade.

With this song and accompanying album, Winehouse brought back big bands and orchestras into the Pop landscape. And while many have tried their hand at that throwback sound, few subsequent offerings could match the potent potion of authenticity, rawness, and lyrical brilliance found in Winehouse’s work.

Timeless music for a timeless artist, Ms. Winehouse, we salute you in earnest.

Disney is taking the world on a ‘Jungle Cruise.’

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt lead the action-adventure, which was originally due in theaters last summer.

Like many major titles, those plans were put on pause due to the pandemic.

Now, though, it’s all systems go and the flick will hit both theaters and Disney+ on July 30.

Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, the high-octane film relays the tale of a riverboat captain named Frank (Johnson).

He journeys into the Amazon with a scientist (Blunt) and her brother; together mounting a mission to find the Tree of Life which is believed to be the home of healing powers. Naturally, they encounter many wild twists and turns along the way.

Check out the extended trailer for ‘Jungle Cruise’, which also stars Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti, below…
