R&B star Chris Brown features in the October issue of VIBE magazine. In the interview, Brown (attempts) to explain his way with the ladies:

“I’ve had girlfriends, but it’s different. Not jump-offs! Like, you don’t be like, ‘That’s my girl,’ but you know when you hang with her, it’s like … friends with benefits. If I’m singling out one girl, think about all the other girls who are falling in love with me in that club. What they gon’ think? So it’s like, I have a relationship with every girl. It’s like every girl is my girlfriend.”

Having tried to make sense of what he said, the only thing I did understand was that it sounded like nonsense. I’m not too sure Chris knew what he meant either lol. With all this talk of ‘friends with benefits’, it’s hard to think that the boy only just turned 18. SMH…

In other Chris Brown news, a video for the remix of his current single ‘Wall to Wall’ featuring Jadakiss premiered last night:

Though the song has grown on me a little, it’s still sub-par as – is this video. I don’t know why his label are beating a dead horse; the song is bonafide flop – peaking at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100.

What do you think of his comments / video?
The husband of the woman who died in a car accident, which involved Brandy, believes the singer shouldn’t be out enjoying herself while he is still mourning. Marquane Hdidou’s lawyer voiced his clients anger in a statement to TMZ outside a court hearing.

Meanwhile, a judge has allowed for Hdidou, his wife’s two kids from a previous marriage, her parents and a woman also involved in the car accident to combine their lawsuits into one. All are seeking cash from Brandy. A court hearing has been set for sometime in January. No criminal charges have been filed against the singer…

As bad as I feel for the family, I’m can’t help but think that they’re trying to extort money from Brandy. The fact that criminal charges have not been brought against her reaffirms the fact that it was a tragic accident – nothing more. So why all the lawsuits? Harsh as it may sound, they need to go sit down somewhere.

Rappers Ja Rule and Lil’ Wayne were arrested and charged with criminal possession of a deadly weapon yesterday in separate incidents which both took place in New York yesterday (July 22nd).
Ja Rule, real name Jeff Atkins, initially drew the attention of police officers when his luxury vehicle was stopped for speeding around 10.30pm. When the car was searched, a .40-caliber firearm was found. The ‘Mesmerise’ rapper as well as two other occupants of the vehicle were consequently arrested and charged.
Later in the evening, Miami-bred rapper Lil’ Wayne was arrested after police spotted him and another man smoking marijuana on a tour bus following a concert. When taken into custody and searched, a .40 pistol was found. Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana.
When will some of these rappers learn? It’s no wonder Hip Hop can’t catch a break these days.

50 Cent is running his mouth again, this time about fellow rapper Nas. Speaking to XXL magazine, 50 had the following to say about the ‘Hip Hop Is Dead’ rapper:

You have different kinds of people. You have people that are extremely book smart that lack common sense so they don’t know what’s going to affect their audience. They have more information than me based on reading. For instance, Nas is a really smart guy. He reads books constantly. We were around him on the Nastradamus tour. He was almost weirder than me ’cause we would go to breakfast and he’d be there reading a book. Conceptually, I think that’s what made him drift away from what his initial audience enjoys from him and why he’s not hot right now.

Aside from the fact that Nas tops 50 in just about every way, shouldn’t the G-Unit leader be worrying about his own career? With the released material from 50’s upcoming ‘Curtis’ CD flopping all over the place, you’d think he’d look at himself first. I guess he thinks his tired routine of calling out other rappers to generate buzz will work this time. He doesn’t seem to get it – no one cares for his music anymore.

What do you think of 50’s comments?

A couple of weeks ago, both Kelly Rowland and Mya gave performances at the ‘Fashion Cares 2007’ event in Canada. Check out the videos:

Kelly Rowland Performing Dilemma

I liked this performance; it seems Kelly has improved on her live vocals. The Patti Labelle ‘Love, Need and Want You’tie-in (the song Dilemma samples) was a nice touch. Although, it didn’t help that the crowd was almost completely dead. {LOL at the mess dressed in white..’Watch It’}

Mya Performing ‘I Am’

Watching this performance made me realise how much I actually like the song – why isn’t this a single? Anyway, the performance was pretty good. Mya’s vocals were on-point and the song works well live. As was with Kelly, the lack of crowd response slightly took away from the overall performance. I don’t understand why people go to these shows to sit silent and unresponsive.

What did you think of Kelly & Mya’s performances?

Bad news for those holding out for the return of The Fugees. Former member Pras has gone on record to state that the status of his reunion with fellow members Lauryn Hill and Wyclef is “Straight dead”. Speaking to SOHH, Pras explains “You know, unfortunately Miss Hill, she got some things she needs to deal with. I wish her the best, but life goes on.” The critically acclaimed trio were scheduled to release an album last year marking 10 years since the release of their classic LP ‘The Score’; a single, ‘Take It Eazy’ was even released in late 2005. Currently each member is focusing on their own projects; including Pras’ new album/movie project and Lauryn Hill’s upcoming overseas tour.
Whatever the case, I say they should hurry up and get it together. Look at how many 90’s groups try to reunite after so many years away – only to find that no one cares anymore.

According to hit-maker Jermaine Dupri, Nelly is hard at work on his new album and has a few surprises in store. JD tells MTV News:
“Nelly’s got a crazy collaboration he’s trying to put together, which is him, Janet and Mariah Carey all on one song,” JD said. “That’s what he wants. If he could convince them to do it, it would be crazy. He wants Janet to rap a 16-bar verse, he wants Mariah to sing the hook and he’s gonna do two verses. He has it all planned out. You ask him about it! This is what he wants; he’s 100-percent deadlocked into it. My two records [that J.D. has produced for Nelly so far], he’s gonna have some people on them – I won’t tell it yet. I don’t want to jinx the record”.
I’ve been hearing about a possible Mariah / Janet collaboration for some time now, but now Nelly has been thrown into the mix. For some reason, the concept seems more appealing than just the two of them. Janet rapping, though…?
R&B ‘It-Chick’ Beyonce continued the promotion of her B’Day re-release by performing on The Early Show. The performances were filmed this Monday and were screened yesterday. ‘Irreplaceable’ and ‘Beautiful Liar’ (minus Shakira) were the songs she sang. She did good on both songs, however the audience were kinda dead during the Beautiful Liar performance. I would have preferred her perform something else, as there are stronger cuts on the album that haven’t yet been performed live i.e. ‘Upgrade U’ and ‘Get Me Bodied’. Anyway check out the performances…

In more Beyonce news, a new track which is only featured on the European version of the B’Day re-release (due April 23rd) has surfaced. The song, titled ‘If’, is decent. If anything, it reminds me of Rihanna’s ‘Unfaithful’.
