To commemorate the 20th anniversary of her breakthrough album, 1986’s ‘Control,’ Pop icon Janet Jackson released her ninth studio album – the aptly titled ’20 Y.O.’ – in September 2006.

Famously dating Jermaine Dupri at the time, the LP may have featured contributions from her longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, but its singles were helmed by the So So Def founder (who also served as the project’s executive producer).

Given the fragility of the GRAMMY winner’s career at the time, only two years removed from the infamous Super Bowl incident, fans disapproved of the album’s creative direction and pointed to Dupri’s involvement as the reason it stalled at Platinum status and yielded no sizable hits.

Recently reflecting on the effort’s commercial performance, J.D. took to our friends at Page Six to address why it’s unlikely he’ll reunite with his former boo in the studio any time soon.

Since its onset, #VERZUZ has been a social media phenomenon that’s not only locked some of Urban music’s most beloved characters in a hit-for-hit duel but also seen fans create fantasy versions to assess how their faves would fare if squared.

As it’s been a critical knockout for the slew of big names who have graced the platforms to date, calls for prospective contenders have only risen and include names like Chris Brown (click here to read more), Usher, Beyoncé, Keyshia Cole, Ashanti, and more.

Among the names thrown in the ring for a potential battle is 2000’s rapper Bow Wow.  Despite previously asserting openness to battling fellow emcee Fabolous, the ‘Bounce with Me’ beau has since retracted said interest even as fans are pushing for a round-for-round bout with Soulja Boy.

Once our friends at TSR shared Bow’s latest weigh-in on the prospect, Timbaland – one of the #VERZUZ creators – offered a criticism that must’ve gotten under the ‘Growing Up Hip Hop’ star’s skin.

Chris Brown celebrated his 31st birthday (May 5) by gifting fans a duet mixtape with Young Thug.

As we reported here, the set – titled ‘Slime & B’ – may have had a soft entry on the Billboard 200 but later peaked at #24 on the tally thanks to the ongoing success of its lead single, ‘Go Crazy.’  The Murphy Kid-produced tune has been a steady ascender on the Hot 100 thanks in part to the popularity of the “#GoCrazyChallenge” popularized by Brown’s daughter, Royalty.

Now, over two months after its debut, ‘Crazy’ has cracked the Hot 100’s top 10 and gifted Chris his 16th reign in the region since his career started in 2005.

This week brings with it the eagerly-awaited return of Brandy, who will unleash her seventh studio album ‘B7’ on Friday July 31st.

The ‘Baby Mama’ led LP looks set to quench the thirst of fans, who last hit play on a project by the GRAMMY-winner in 2012.

Ever candid, the Vocal Bible has been open about the hurdles and hardships faced in the eight years that followed the critically-acclaimed ‘Two Eleven.’ With one of the most notable being the fall-out with her former record label; a legal wrangle that left her unable to release music for an excruciating spell of time.

With that drama in rearview, last year saw the songbird hatch liberation anthem ‘Freedom Rings’ to trumpet her comeback.

Now, she’s taking flight to new creative heights on her latest body of work.

Comprised of 15-tracks, ‘B7’ sees Brandy – for the first time in her illustrious career – cowrite on every song featured.

Shaped by hitmakers such as DJ Camper, Hit-Boy, and the late and loved LaShawn Daniels, ‘B7’ is an effort B-Rocka bills as her most personal offering yet.

That Grape Juice was privy to an early listen of the entire album and echo said sentiments.

Join us below as we unpack TGJ’s Top 5 Songs You Must Listen To On Brandy’s ‘B7’
