While many R&B releases got thumbs up from critics in 2019, no two efforts waved the flag for the genre quite like Chris Brown‘s ‘Indigo’ and Summer Walker‘s ‘Over It.’

The former, a 37-track affair featuring the likes of Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Trey Songz, and more, was deemed a return to form as it gifted Brown his first appearance in the Hot 100’s top 5 in over a decade courtesy of the wildly popular jam, ‘No Guidance’ (featuring Drake).  Similarly, ‘Over It’ – almost just as star-studded with high profile features from Usher, 6LACK, PartyNextDoor, and more – was the best performing female R&B project since Beyonce‘s ‘Lemonade’ in 2016.

As the popularity of both chart-topping opuses endures months after their releases, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently recognized their respective sales performances by awarding them certification plaques.  Walker’s debut album has been certified Gold (denoting sales equivalence of over 500,000 copies in the United States) while Christopher’s was christened Platinum (denoting sales equivalence of over 1,000,000 in the United States).

Curious to know where the two LPs landed on this week’s Billboard 200? Look inside:

Despite the hiccups with its long-awaited rollout, Kanye West‘s latest album – ‘Jesus is King’ – has delivered no shortages of blessings to the rapper’s nearly unrivaled stats.  In addition to making history by tying Eminem‘s record for most consecutive chart-topping albums in Billboard 200’s history (as we reported here), the LP launched its first single – ‘Follow God’ – to a #7 peak on the singles chart.

Coming as the 107th Hot 100 appearance of his career (18th top 10 hit), the Grammy winner took the song’s sales and streams to even higher heights once its Jake Schreier-directed music video was unveiled.  The reward for the labor has come with an official report from the Recording Industry Association of America that the cut has crossed the threshold for Gold certification, meaning it’s “sold” over 500,000 copies since its debut.  ‘Follow’ marks West’s 40th single to earn such an honor.

While we extend out congratulations to the hitmaker, look inside to see where it landed on this week’s Hot 100 on our weekly ‘Chart Check’ segment:

Harry Styles unwrapped sophomore album ‘Fine Line’ this week to ample acclaim and stellar sales out of the gate.

But beyond its bopable music, the project has been interpreted by some as hinting heavily  at Styles’ sexuality. With a sect of commenters citing the fluid flare of the video + lyrics of the LP’s lead single ‘Lights Up, as well as Styles’ androgynous dress sense across the whole campaign.

In being an act who shuns the glare of the spotlight and the incessant attempts to pry into his private life, his silence on the matter (not that he owes anyone anything) has only served to the fuel the chatter.

Now, he’s setting the record straight. Or is he? See what we mean below…
