Eight years ago, Nicki Minaj unlocked her first studio album ‘Pink Friday‘ and watched it open with pure sales of 375,000 units and go on to move a total of 1 million units by the end of its release month.

Since then, unbeknownst to her fans, the respected music industry body that is Billboard has been quietly tracking sales of each and every female artist who have impacted its Billboard 200 albums chart with debut sets to see if any could match or better Minaj’s record-setting numbers.

This year, it has unveiled its findings.

Miley Cyrus pulled a 180 on fans when she ditched the raunch of her ‘Bangerz’ era for the more wholesome looks of its Country-inspired follow-up, ‘Younger Now.’  When the buying public rejected the transformation (as evidenced by the set’s sales and eventually being lost in obscurity), Cyrus not only announced intent to return to the Urban Pop formula that laced the 2013 LP’s tracks, but also plans to tip toe back into the image that accompanied it.

Evidence of that can be found by the singer’s headline grabbing performance on ‘SNL’ last night (December 15).  Belting out the Mark Ronson-assisted hit, ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart,’ and their remake of John Lennon Christmas classic, ‘War Is Over,’ the 26-year-old’s voice was on point and so were some of the revealing outfits she wore for the performance.

Zayn‘s long-awaited sophomore album ‘Icarus Falls’ finally landed this week after several false starts.

The successor to 2016’s ‘Mind Of Mine’ boasts a beefy tracklist comprised of 27-songs, several of which were rolled out as promo singles in the year plus that preceded its arrival.

However, with the former One Direction singer still shunning traditional promotion, the effects are reflecting in the project’s commercial performance.

H.E.R has emerged as one of the year’s definitive break-out stars.

Despite being relatively new to the masses, the soul-filled songbird has accrued a fast-growing fanbase that also includes a number of major stars.

Indeed, the likes of Rihanna and Alicia Keys have expressed appreciation for her music.

One of the most notable and vocal supporters, though, is Pop legend Janet Jackson, who attended her show in London in March.

The Cardi B and Offset soap-opera continues.

It’s almost two weeks since the ‘Bodak Yellow’ rapper announced her split from the Migos star following a fresh set of cheating allegations.

In that time, the father of four has publicly and repeatedly declared his love for his wife and besieged her to take him back. Just this week, he used his birthday to beg for her return – citing time with her and their daughter Kulture as the only gift he wants.

Tonight however he upped the ante. Because while Cardi was performing at the Rolling Loud Festival in Los Angeles, the MC crashed the stage (with flowers that read “Take Me Back Cardi”) and said:

“I just want to tell you I’m sorry bruh. In person. In front of the WORLD.”
