Once thought to be the first major casualty of the industry shakeup caused by coronavirus, ‘Trolls World Tour’ – the follow-up to the 2016 animated blockbuster ‘Trolls’ – has proven itself a winner on many fronts.

As reported here, the film’s release was preceded by news its accompanying soundtrack debuted at #110 on the Billboard 200 – fulfilling the predicted fate for the set given the nonperformance of its lead singles ‘The Other Side’ (Justin Timberlake, SZA) and ‘Don’t Slack’ (Timberlake, Anderson .Paak).

While a similar outcome was forecasted for the movie itself, the Anna Kendricks-led flick  – which bypassed theaters to go straight to home rental – exceeded expectations and has racked up over $100 million since its premiere (as we reported here).  Its popularity has breathed new life into its companion album as the project, produced by Timberlake, recently shot into the Billboard 200’s top 20.

Just hours after the death of Bill Withers was announced Friday (April 3), fans of the legendary singer have turned to digital download and streaming platforms for consolation.

Albeit a common response to reports of the passing of a beloved musician, Withers’ catalog – unlike some – is seeing multiple entries dominate real-time iTunes charts with hits that are older than most of the acts he’s unseating.

Besting the likes of Drake, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, and a host of other current hitmakers, look inside for more:

In 2016, the Justin Timberlake-produced ‘Trolls’ soundtrack – the official companion album of the animated box office blockbuster of the same name – peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 thanks in great part to the massive popularity of its chart-topping lead single, ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ (performed by Timberlake).

Yet despite assembling a star-studded list of contributors including the likes of Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Anderson. Paak, SZA, and more for its follow-up, ‘Trolls World Tour,’ the new effort – also produced by the former *NSYNC frontman – looks like it won’t be able to boast the success of its double Platinum predecessor.

The critical and commercial misstep that was Justin Timberlake‘s 2018 album, the Country-tinged ‘Man of the Woods,’ has the 39-year-old trying to get out of the woods with music buyers – a position that’s undoubtedly led him to drive his musical endeavors back to basics.

Hot on the promo trail for the recently released ‘Trolls World Tour’ soundtrack (click here to stream it), Timberlake took to Zane Lowe last week to dish on his next solo LP and teased the effort by mentioning R&B/Hip-Hop producers Timbaland, Danja, and Hit-Boy are among the craftsmen he’s already teamed with for it.

As if that return to form is not enough for his fans to get excited about, word has it he may be working on a reunion with *NSYNC.  Details inside:

Although his ‘Trolls World Tour’ soundtrack collaboration with SZA, ‘Other Side,’ just entered the Billboard Hot 100 this week (#61), Justin Timberlake is already moving on to its follow-up.

Tapping Anderson .Paak to assist, the cut – ‘Don’t Slack’ – is just as funky as its predecessor.

“Okay now don’t slack / I need all my racks / No, we don’t hold back / Act like you know that,” they sing.

Coming as what many hope is just a foretaste of more music from the duo (as Timberlake previously teased a possible joint album with the Grammy winner), look inside to hear ‘Slack’:

Normani.

It’s a name that’s been on the lips of many in recent months and a name that looks set to be one mouthed by the masses in 2019.

The Houston native found fame as a member of Pop outfit Fifth Harmony and is now being tipped as music’s next seismic solo star.

Armed with the momentum of Billboard smash ‘Love Lies’ (which peaked in the top 10 and remains on the Hot 100 — after 40 weeks), the 22-year-old is gearing up to release Sam Smith collaboration ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ tomorrow.

On the eve of its arrival, Normani’s sizzles a-front of Billboard magazine’s latest issue.

Yet, it’s her accompanying interview that is most compelling of all.

Doing away with the hyper-media trained answers that define many in music, the rising star offered up personal insights into her journey thus far (including the rigors of 5H), her mission as an ambassador for Black women, and her solo sound.
