Today’s From The Vault pick comes courtesy of one of the most gifted entertainers of our generation – Chris Brown.
The T-Pain assisted ‘Kiss Kiss is this week’s selection.
With the preceding single ‘Wall To Wall’ not achieving success, Team Breezy decided to pull out the big gun and turned to then-chart titan T-Pain to cook up a hook-heavy R&B smash.
‘Kiss’ – produced by its guest feature – became the launching single from Brown’s sophomore set ‘Exclusive’ and fared sweetly on the charts, earning the top spot of the US Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks. Elsewhere, it peaked at #6 in Canada and #8 in Australia.
Erik White directed the song’s visual. Set in college, it puts a energised spin on the classic Jock vs Nerd narrative with Chris playing the two roles.
The clip was nominated for Best Choreography at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, where Chris performed the track in a joint performance with then-girlfriend Rihanna.
Say what folk will about C. Breezy, but there’s no denying that he possess a tremendous talent; one we feel isn’t always used the way it should.
We weren’t particularly moved by the mix and match that was his latest album ‘Heartbreak On A Fullmoon,’ so until Breezy can focus on blessing the world with a cohesive, filler-free LP accompanied by a more organized promo run, we’ll keep going back to the good ole days.
