Unlike the gems from their most recent respective releases, ‘Lemonade’ and ‘4:44,’ the fans of Beyonce and Jay Z may have not exactly gone apesh*t over the album cuts from their first joint effort, ‘Everything is Love,’ but they sure do have their eyes and ears on the set’s lead single ‘Apesh*t.’
Not only coming as the week’s highest debut of any artist, the tune also ranks as the highest charting song from the ‘Everything is Love’ album (to date). The rest of its content debuted in the lower third of the Hot 100, with four of them even taking to the Bubbling Under Charts – “713” (#3), “Heard About Us” (#10), “Black Effect” (#20) and “Lovehappy” (#21).
While theories on piracy, the ineffectiveness of streaming exclusivity, and even ‘surprise album fatigue’ puzzle fans on the uncharacteristic commercial response to the project, one release that certainly isn’t experiencing any of this is the late XXXTentacion’s ‘Sad!’ While it’s certainly characteristic of the sales and streams of an artist to dramatically increase following news of his or her death, the response to the rapper’s passing has blown that out of the water.
