Following a colossal co-sign from Drake, British singer Jorja Smith has unleashed her long-awaited album debut ‘Lost & Found.’

To celebrate its release, the soul-filled songstress stopped by BBC 1Xtra Live Lounge to flex her gravitas.

Sticking to the show’s tried and true format of delivering something original alongside a contemporary cover, 20-year-old Smith dazzled with her song ‘Blue Lights’ – but before then tackled Rihanna and Cardi B in a melodic mash-up. She soulfully sewed together ‘Man Down’ and ‘Be Careful.’

The accolades and honors just keep piling on Kendrick Lamar.

The 30-year-old rap superstar is still very much enjoying the success of his latest multi-platinum album, ‘Damn,’ over a year after its release.  Just two months after becoming the first rapper in history to win a Pulitzer prize for the content found aboard the chart-topping LP, Lamar learned this week he’s entered history books for another feat.

Thanks to a handsome combination of sales, radio play, and streaming, the project has becoming the first in history (by a solo artist) to see every one of its songs be certified platinum.

To say the least, the road to album #2 has been rocky for Iggy Azalea.

Thanks to a few nonperforming singles and a label change, her sophomore effort – originally christened ‘Digital Distortion’ – was ultimately shelved.  Instead diverting attention to a “visual EP” titled ‘Surviving the Summer,’ the project – which reportedly features none of the work set to line ‘Digital Distortion’ – hasn’t exactly had the strongest of launches itself.

Despite being kicked off by the Quavo-assisted ‘Savior’ (which did not make much noise on charts), the 6-song set hasn’t had much buzz blown in the way of high anticipation of its release.  That may be set to change as Azalea took to social media recently to quench the thirst of fans who’ve long quizzed about the elusive release date of ‘Summer.’

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’ll fast backward to Maxwell’s (born Gerald Rivera) 1999 hit ‘Fortunate.’  Found aboard the soundtrack to the Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence-led film ‘Life,’ the neo-soul jam – penned and produced by R. Kelly – was initially rejected by Rivera before Kelly convinced him to record it instead of the title track to the film’s soundtrack (a tune later made a hit by K-Ci & Jojo).

Released in March of that year, the tune eventually peaked at #4 on the Hot 100 (where it was found this week that year).  Unknown to the crooner at the time, ‘Fortunate’ not only went on to be the Hot 100 peak of his career but also the biggest hit of his career with sales that currently hover slightly under the Platinum mark.  Going on to become a fan favorite amongst his many unforgettable R&B gems, look inside to relieve the magic of ‘Fortunate’ and see who joined him in the Hot 100 this week 19 years ago:

While pop icon Mariah Carey has made headlines recently for referring to her early 90s marriage to legendary music exec Tommy Mottola as ‘wounding’ due to his alleged ‘controlling’ manner (click here to read more), he – on the other hand – has had nothing but glowing things to say about his former bride.

Taking to Variety magazine to dish on his exit from the music industry and entry into the theater realm, namely with his latest Broadway venture (the Donna Summer bio-musical), the one-time leader of Sony spoke candidly about his present relationship with the songstress.  Discussing her disastrous 2016 NYE performance and its 2017 redemptive redo, Mottola weighs in on the status of the singer’s current career while angering ‘American Idol’ fans for his comments on Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
