Season 7 of ‘Scandal’ looks set to be bittersweet for fans of the ABC show.

For on the one hand, its recent renewal means the political drama will stretch into next year. However, on the other, it’s being reported that it will indeed be its final instalment.

The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, who asserts that the end of Olivia Pope and co will be announced formally at the ABC Upfront 2017/18 presentation next week.

Throughout the show’s run, creator Shonda Rhimes has been emphatic in stressing that she has always known when the show would end; asserting that it was never meant to be a “10 season type of series.”

However, following last year’s controversial US election, she admitted that the real-life political landscape had thrown the show’s for a loop and she was no longer sure of its end destination.

Well, it’s looking like an answer has manifested.

********

Though longtime lovers of the show, we’re actually at peace with this. After all, the best titles know when to bow out. So, with ‘Scandal’ arguably nearing its qualitative ceiling, what time better than its 7th cycle to have its final curtain call.

As the age old adage goes: all good things must come to an end.

As her nemesis Katy Perry struggles to nab endorsements from anyone these days Taylor Swift has discovered that she has found a fan in the leader of the free world.

That’s right…

How she found out? By way of a resurfaced video which sees the troubled President blasting her jams!

Confirmation of Donald’s deep admiration of Swift comes as the superstar builds bops for her next studio album and as Trump’s White House faces fresh heat thanks to its supposed ties to the US’ enemy Russia.

Brandy is in album mode and continues to share morsels of what she’s been baking in the lab.

The Vocal Bible has employed Instagram as her platform of choice to preview the music she’s been recording for her first LP since 2012’s ‘Two Eleven.’

Today saw her tease another fresh number named ‘Role Model.’

Markedly more commercial than previous previews, the track may be our favorite from the pack.

Yes, yes, and yes. We’re loving the cockiness we could pick out from the lyrics.

With her label legal woes reportedly behind her, here’s hoping she drops something soonish.

Iggy Azalea‘s road to redemption hasn’t been smooth.

Last year’s ‘Team’ saw her declare she was the only one in her corner and, based on its sales, that certainly appeared to be the case.

This Spring’s follow-up ‘Mo Bounce’ struggled to bounce its way into the upper region of any chart either.

Hoping for better fortunes on her third swing of the bat, Azalea is readying new single ‘Switch’ for release on May 19th.

Before then though, she’s been opening up to fans about the underperformance of preceding effort and her plan moving forward.

Check this out…

Refreshing to see an artist keep it real about their predicament.

We do still wonder whether it’s all a little too late for her, but if history has taught anything it’s to never count anyone out.

‘Switch,’ Iggy’s new single, lands May 19th.

A couple who pretended to be Adele’s managers have been arrested following an attempt to bamboozle Kendrick Lamar!

The couple were arrested in Miami over the weekend when their scams and schemes were rocked and rumbled by police after Adele’s real manager Jonathan Dickins received an email about free goods the couple had attempted to pick up for themselves.

The shocked manager then alerted police who discovered that the pair had used the same tactics to scam concert tickets out of the likes of Rihanna, Usher, Drake, Katy Perry and their peers.

Billboard adds:

When Jackson, Lii and one other woman arrived at Bayfront Park to pick up the tickets on Saturday — claiming Dickins was working with clients all day — the couple was immediately detained by police and now face grand theft and identity theft charges. The other woman with them was not arrested.

This is not the first time that Jackson has been accused of impersonating a celebrity rep. In 2007, he was sentenced to two years in prison for posing as a rep to Madonna and convinced a New York boutique to loan him $2.4 million jewelry that he later sold to a pawn shop.

A federal judge has ordered them to pull the plug on their operation.

So, why are so many people against ‘All Lives Matter’ being a response to ‘Black Lives Matter’?

The Huffington Post explains:

The basic premise behind “All Lives Matter” = we should not highlight that black lives matter because all lives matter.

As it turns out, you’re not wrong: all lives do matter. But the problem with this premise lies in what goes unaddressed in your line of thinking.

See, “Black Lives Matter“ is trying to highlight that there is demonstrable evidence that black lives matter less than white lives to the criminal justice system (and the American government as a whole).

Bow Wow hasn’t released charting music in almost a decade, but has instead made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

His latest faux-pas came today and centers on a plane. Stay with us.

See, in what appears to be a case of flossing gone wrong, the rapper (real name Shad Moss) took to Instagram to share a snap of himself boarding a private plane to New York to do press for his new show.

The issue? It appears he wasn’t on a private plane at all.

An observant Snapchat traveller shared the following, which has gone all sorts of viral…

Here’s the image Bow shared on Instagram…

To make matters worse, it looks as though he posted a stock image:

The ultimately kii is that he’s embarrassed himself for literally no reason. Like, folk struggle to care about his music much less his travel arrangements. Yet, in trying project himself to be this high-flyer, he ironically knocks himself even further into the ground. Oh well.

Calvin Harris has been heating up the airwaves with an array of new music. Yet, until now, little had been divulged about an attached album.

All that changed moments ago when Scottish hitmaker formally announced new LP ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1’ (due June 30th).

Aptly titled, the project houses previously heard collaborations with Frank Ocean and Migos (‘Slide’) and the Ariana Grande, Pharrell, and Young Thug cut (‘Heatstroke’). Both of which boast similar funk-driven sound.

Per the LP’s announcement video, it’s been confirmed that other major names will feature on the set including Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Kehlani, Future, and John Legend.

Fans of the rising R&B star Kehlani were shocked when she broke down on stage at a  Grand Rapids show yesterday evening.

I truly feel like I might have to go to the hospital at this point because I feel crazy. I’m so sorry, but I came up here and I promised my team that I would try…If you need to be refunded, I’ll take it out of my pocket and reschedule. I put that on everything. We’ll make this show happen again, but I need to go do something about this because I feel crazy.

She went on to add today:

Why fans were worried? The star’s suicide attempt last year.

Fifth Harmony lead a star-studded line-up of artists tapped to perform on the 2017 Good Morning America Summer Concert Series.

The Pop quad – who are gearing up to release new music – have been announced as one the major names set to rock the annual extravaganza, which takes place each Friday over the next few months.

With all eyes and ears on the group following the departure of Camila Cabello (who’ll be performing on the TODAY Show’s rival series), it would appear fresh material is nigh. For, rarely will an act perform on the platform without new music to plug.

The ladies will be gracing the GMA stage on June 2nd – by which time member Normani’s high profile stint on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ will have wrapped.

In any case, other talent on the bill include Jason Derulo and Big Sean.

LeToya Luckett is finally gearing up to unwrap her third album ‘Back 2 Life’ this Friday (May 12th).

In hitting the promotional trail, the singer-actress stopped by The Breakfast Club to chat about the project and a whole lot more.

Chopping it up with DJ Envy and Angela Yee, Luckett opened up about her hiatus from music, what folk can expect from her LP, acting, heartbreak in her public relationships, and the group that launched her into stardom – Destiny’s Child.

She also waxed honest about her current relationship with the band’s members – Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and Michelle Williams.

After months of speculation, stalled and then re-started talks, ‘American Idol’ is officially being revived.

Following a heated bidding war, ABC announced this morning that they have won the rights to air the next incarnation of the singing competition

As widely reported, FOX – who aired the original show for 15 seasons – was very interested as was NBC.

Ultimately, though, it’s ABC who secured the broadcast privileges from Idol’s joint owners Freemantle and Core Media Group.

And while it was thought that Idol was being readied for a 2018 return, there’s talk that that it may be back on air this year and form a central part of ABC’s 2017-18 schedule.

Speaking on the network’s major coup, Channing Dungey – the president of ABC Entertainment – said:

American Idol is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon. ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams.”

Ben Sherwood – co-chairman of ABC’s parent company Disney – chimed in and promised a “bigger, bolder and better-than-ever Idol. He added:

“American Idol on ABC… that has a nice ring to it. Idol is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC’s lineup of addictive fan favorites alongside Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor.

There’s no formal word on a host, but it’s notable that Ryan Seacrest recently signed on the new co-host of Live With Kelly – housed on ABC.

Word on the curb is that the network plans to bend backwards to accommodate Seacrest’s schedule so as to facilitate his Idol comeback.

***********

On the one hand this is a major touchdown for ABC, who’ve struggled to make any kind of mark in the reality singing arena. Indeed, while they’ve sunk with titles such as ‘Rising Star,’ NBC and FOX scored wins with the likes of ‘The Voice’ and the original ‘Idol.’

Still, one has to wonder how the new revival will fare.

Internally, the reported feeling was that Idol ended prematurely because it just became too expensive to produce (thanks largely to the superstar judges it courted). However, there’s no denying that ratings were on a downward spiral and that it struggled to yield stars on the caliber of Fantasia (pictured), Kelly Clarkson, and Jennifer Hudson. A natural reality, arguably, given how long the show was on air.

People gravitate towards “newness,” as such it’ll be interesting to see whether a new network and likely changes to the format will be enough to entice viewers back. Or are folk just over such shows in general?
