Xscape and SWV are renowned for delivering high notes. But on their new joint reality show, they’re bringing high tension too.

The Bravo series chronicles the iconic ensembles as they prepare for an epic joint show comprised of their biggest hits

Beyond celebrating the music that has been the soundtrack to so many lives, the core of the chaos thus far has been Xscape’s internal issues and bubbling beef with SWV over whether their concert will be jointly billed or headlined by the ‘Understanding’ belters.

On episode 5 (which airs this coming Sunday), folk will see Kandi Burruss and Coko‘s clash over the show’s setlist.

Ahead of the arrival of the newest addition to Ed Sheeran‘s wildly popular mathematically-titled albums, ‘-‘ (Subtract), the singer-songwriter is giving his dedicated fans (affectionately called #Sheerios) their first taste of what the project is set to serve.

The heavily teased ‘Eyes Closed,’ a tribute song to the GRAMMY winner’s late friend Jamal Edwards, acts as the LP’s first official single.

“This song is about losing someone, feeling like every time you go out and you expect to just bump into them, and every thing just reminds you of them and things you did together. You sorta have to take yourself out of reality sometimes to numb the pain of loss, but certain things just bring you right back into it,” Sheeran shared about the song before its March 24 arrival.

Having already secured the first Hot 100 top 5 placement of his career with The Weeknd and 21 Savage-assisted track, ‘Creepin,’ producer extraordinaire Metro Boomin is hoping the hit song will creep to #1 with its official remix.

Calling on music mogul Diddy (born Sean Combs) to contribute his unmistakable flair to the ‘Heroes & Villains’ track, the addition comes as an apt one as ‘Creepin’ samples Mario Winans‘ 2004 signature hit ‘I Don’t Wanna Know’ (which was released on Combs’ Bad Boy label and features his vocals).

“They ain’t real and they ain’t Puff / Ain’t a place in this world that my feet ain’t touch,” the 53-year-old spits on the ‘Creepin’ revamp. “I got visions that cost millions and make billions / Baby girl, we can make love and make trillions.”

Xscape are making all sorts of headlines of late thanks to their drama-drenched reality series with SWV.

But make no mistake, the group’s pedigree and premium emanate from their stellar music catalog.

This week From The Vault toasts one of the quartet’s most revered anthems – ‘Who Can I Run To.’

Housed on the ladies’ sophomore album ‘Off The Hook,’ the track was released in 1995 as the LP’s second single.

Historically, members Kandi Burruss and LaTocha Scott tagged-teamed as the group’s lead vocalists. Yet, with this stunning cover of The Jones Girls’ 1979 hit of the same name, Tamika Scott took center stage with powerful finesse.

For many, the magic of the track exists within both its frank lyrical narrative and astute vocal delivery. This potent pairing helped lift the release to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally.

Its simple yet effective video, which sees the ensemble performing the song in Club So So Def, also serves as one of the most memorable offerings from the mid-90s R&B scene.

As the compelling storylines play out on ‘SWV & Xscape,’ here’s hoping the magic of this oft-underrated group is celebrated in equal measure.

The tune’s March 10-released parent project nabbed headlines for flying to the top of real-time Apple Music sales tallies of over 70 countries in less than 24 hours after its unveiling – a victory lap that led industry analysts to predict the 12-song set’s Stateside faring would boast up to 130,000 units shifted by the end of its inaugural tracking week.
