Big Sean and Jhene Aiko had jaws dropping just this time last week when they dropped the surprise announcement of their joint EP ‘Twenty88.’

Conveniently due on digital shelves April 1st, many fans originally perceived the announcement as an April Fool’s joke.  Indeed, while a Flaunt magazine spread and live performance on ‘Kimmel’ later disproved such, the effort’s minimal promotional push almost looked poise to see the real joke fall on Sean and Aiko.  Add to this a Tidal-only streaming availability (until April 4th), the project had an unquestionable uphill battle from day 1.

Yet, as the two have proven with their solo efforts, the absence of hit singles and promo is by no means indicative of failure.  And, if their predicted first week sales are anything to go by, they’re set to prove that point yet again…

Panic at the Disco & R&B royal Sisqo teamed up for a creative cause hours ago.

What that cause was? An epic cover of the latter’s smash hit single ‘Thong Song‘ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ following the release of the band’s latest album ‘Death of a Bachelor.’

‘Song’ appeared on Sisqo‘s 1999 release ‘Unleash the Dragon’ and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with help from a “bootylicious” visual directed by Joseph Kahn.

Chris Brown and Ed Sheeran breathed new life into the former’s hit single ‘Loyal’ recently when they joined forces to perform it live in Las Vegas.

The Pop pals performed the number during Brown’s appearance at Drai‘s and did so before he found his way to ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ to perform the single ‘Body on Me’ with the song’s lead act Rita Ora.

Racy Rita Ora steamed screens across the globe recently with the unleashing of the video for ‘Body On Me’ – her sensual duet with Chris Brown.

Lifted from the 24-year-old’s new album, due in November, the track serves as the LP’s first global offering and is already off to a blazing start digitally (having amassed over 10 million views).

Keen to keep the momentum going, Team Rita have unveiled a behind the scenes look at how the Colin Tilley directed visual was pieced together.

According to the Roc Nation princess, the video concept changed three times – with initial treatments including a beach vid as well as an exotic desert clip.

Two of the year’s most highly anticipated R&B offerings found themselves available on record shelves on the same day.

Indeed, October 7th brought with it the latest releases of R&B fan favorite Keyshia Cole and high octane newcomer Tinashe.  Between them, they left few promotional stones unturned as they popped up everywhere from ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ & ‘The Queen Latifah Show’ to ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live‘ and ‘106 & Park.’

But, was it enough?

With Cole reporting the lowest first week numbers of her career and Tinashe’s modest numbers slightly behind that, did each songstress’s additional releases (i.e. songs and/or videos) and promotional appearances act as just the tricks to hoist reported numbers upward?
