They always said ‘third time’s the charm’ and, let Solange tell it, ‘they’ would be right again.

For, nearly 14 years after her debut LP, ‘Solo Star,’ the youngest of the Knowles clan can finally boast claim to a #1 album on the Billboard 200.  That’s right, the singer – whose critically acclaimed third album, ‘Seat at the Table,’ will unseat Shawn Mendes on this week’s refreshed charts.

Getting by with a little help from Lil Wayne, Tweet, The Dream, Kelly Rowland, and so many more, ‘Table’ was unexpectedly announced just days before its release.  A noteworthy streaming force upon its debut, the project defied odds when it surged in the middle of the tracking week (an uncommon feat).  First reported to move somewhere between 42-48k SPS, the final and official figures await you below:

Despite an onslaught of new releases from some of the day’s top artists, it seems the 2016 Billboard 200 chart is in highest favor of the releases of Drake, Beyonce, Adele, and, of course, Rihanna.  The diva eight opus, ‘Anti,’ has proven itself a streaming force like none other as evidenced by its continued buoyancy near or in the top 10 of the tally. This week, 7 months after its release, the set has bounced back into the top 10 after a brief slip out.

Similarly, Ariana Grande‘s critically acclaimed tertiary project, ‘Dangerous Woman,’ may be her first to miss the top spot upon its debut in May, but that hasn’t stopped the project from keeping tenancy in the album chart’s top 20 thanks to some serious love for its singles ‘Into You’ and the Nicki Minaj-assisted ‘Side To Side.’

Finally, after a surprising burst back to #1 last week, this week sees Drake no longer able to boast seeing his name beside the top spot.  Curious to see who ousted the Canadian crooner/emcee?  Tuck in below to find out:

Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature carved out to celebrate TV and Film’s glorious past.

This week, as today’s generation of stars struggle to find conversational platforms to promote themselves and their material, we return to 1997 to revisit one of Janet Jackson‘s conversations with Oprah Winfrey on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.’

Originally set up to discuss her project ‘The Velvet Rope’, the ladies’ interview soon saw them dig deep into Jackson’s personal struggles and insecurities.

One of them being her feeling that she was undeserving of the fame her older brother Michael had generated for her with his own Pop career.

By the end, Winfrey and her audience taught the then 31-year-old entertainer a life lesson we’re sure has remained with her since.

Check it out…
