If you thought the ‘Suicide Squad’s grip on the top of the Billboard 200 was loosening, you thought wrong.  Despite earning some stiff competition from new releases from the likes of Rae Sremmurd and PARTYNEXTDOOR and top 10 mainstays Drake, Rihanna, and Adele, the film’s soundtrack is holding firm to the album chart’s #1 position.

Billboard reports:

The Suicide Squad soundtrack holds at No. 1 for a second week on the Billboard 200 chart…

Suicide Squad earned 93,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 18, according to Nielsen Music (down 49 percent), with 50,000 of that sum comprised of traditional album sales (down 61 percent).

Indeed, with streaming rapidly becoming the primary means of music consumption, platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, and TIDAL routinely churn out exclusives to one-up each other.

This year alone has seen major examples manifest in the form album launches by Beyonce, Drake, and Rihanna. All of which had an “exclusive” streaming component.

In 1915, the release of the deeply racist and violent ‘Birth of a Nation’ precipitated a rise in physical attacks against African-Americans and support for the murderous Ku Klux Klan.

On October 6th 2016, Fox Searchlight Pictures seeks to cast the movie’s evils into cinematic darkness with the release of ‘The Birth of a Nation’, a movie depicting the tale of a slave uprising led by Nat Turner.

Alas, historic allegations made against its star and producer threatened to derail the movie’s run at the box office.
