Thanks to her blockbuster 2022 album, ‘SOS,’ R&B singer-songwriter SZA entered the 2024 GRAMMYs as the night’s most-nominated act (9).

Rightfully so, as the project had not only birthed multiple Billboard Hot 100 dominating hits (‘Kill Bill,’ ‘Snooze,’ and more) but was easily one of the most critically acclaimed albums of its genre in years.

For its critical and commercial successes, many of her dedicated fans figured the project would be a shoo-in for the award show’s most prestigious honor.

The Best New Artist GRAMMY continues to stand as the ultimate testament to the impact a rising star had on the music industry in the nomination eligibility year.

Known by many as the “kiss of death” because several of its recipients over the years went on to see their careers stall or even completely derail after capturing the award, former winners like Toni Braxton, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, Sade, and Alicia Keys respectively defied those odds after each took the award home.

Undoubtedly hoping to keep the latter tradition going, Gracie Abrams, Fred again.., Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, Victoria Monét, and The War And Treaty went head-to-head at the GRAMMYS on Sunday (February 4) to see who would be named the category’s victor for 2024.

JAY-Z was bestowed with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at this evening’s GRAMMY Awards and seized the moment to address a topic that has been a lingering topic since last year: the continued snubbing of Beyonce for Album of the Year.

As reported, the BeyHive (and many more) erupted into fresh frustration following the 2023 ceremony – which saw Queen Bey’s blockbuster and critically acclaimed ‘Renaissance’ LP passed up for the honor…again.

Ironically, that show saw the superstar break a record by becoming the most-awarded artist in GRAMMY history. Yet, it’s of glaring note, that the top honors have routinely eluded the performer – with most of her wins sitting in genre-based categories.

During his acceptance speech, HOV did not hold back on the topic.
