JAY-Z was bestowed with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at this evening’s GRAMMY Awards and seized the moment to address a topic that has been a lingering topic since last year: the continued snubbing of Beyonce for Album of the Year.
As reported, the BeyHive (and many more) erupted into fresh frustration following the 2023 ceremony – which saw Queen Bey’s blockbuster and critically acclaimed ‘Renaissance’ LP passed up for the honor…again.
Ironically, that show saw the superstar break a record by becoming the most-awarded artist in GRAMMY history. Yet, it’s of glaring note, that the top honors have routinely eluded the performer – with most of her wins sitting in genre-based categories.
During his acceptance speech, HOV did not hold back on the topic.

“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone, number one album of the year. So even by that own metric it does not work. Think about that, most Grammys, number one album of the year, that does not work.”

She NEARLY won AoT last year if she hadn’t delayed the visuals indefinitely. Renaissance had all the potential radio-friendly & chart-topping hit singles unlike Lemonade and the visual self titled-album. Next time have everything prepared to win!

She can sing, very well. Even tho I am not a fan of the way her voice matured. Very low, deep, husky, coated with that thick southern accent. But besides that, her music isn’t particularly great. I’m honestly not a fan of any of the winners but if Beyoncé was ever going to win album of the year, it would have been 2014 “Beyoncé”, maybe “lemonade”. Never the crap she’s doing now though.

Renaissance was an amazing album from start to finish. If a Taylor swift album can win, there is nothing wrong with what jay z said. No shade, I’ve not heard one ground-breaking track from Taylor, and I happily add some of her songs to my playlists. Something is NOT adding up.
