As Glasgow was tonight’s pit stop on Beyonce‘s hotly selling ‘Formation’ world tour, the pop diva seized the opportunity to shine a global spotlight on the recent senseless killings of African American men Alton Sterling and Philando Castile – both at the hands of American police authorities.

Taking to the stage to perform an a capella rendition of her stirring release, ‘Freedom’ (found aboard her #1 album ‘Lemonade’), Bey paid homage to a number of victims tragically slain under circumstances similar to Sterling and Castile’s – even adding their names as the first listed for tributed.

“Into You” singer Ariana Grande is the latest perform thrown into the mix of NBC’s highly anticipated adaptation of ‘Hairspray,’ the network’s latest live remake of a Broadway classic.

Much like fellow celebrities Drake, Beyonce, and more, Grammy winning star Chris Brown is using his platform for positivity to react to the tragic killings of two African American men [#PhilandoCastile & #AltonSterling] this week at the hands of police.

While one song, ‘A Lot of Love,’ hears the crooner sharing a heartfelt message of hope and prevailing over prejudice, the other – titled ‘My Friend’ – sees him address social injustice head on.  Taking to Instagram, Brown stated:

“This song [‘Friend’] I released for free for anybody dealing with injustice or struggle in their lives.” he wrote on IG.

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’ll jet back to ‘I Believe’ – the inspirational inaugural release of 2004 ‘American Idol’ winner Fantasia Barrino (known mononymously today).  Launched this week 12 years ago, the tune made an impressive debut at #1 on the Hot 100 – standard fare at the time for winners of the juggernaut reality singing competition.  Temporarily disrupting the reign of the year’s biggest success story – Usher (and the hits found aboard his blockbuster album ‘Confessions’) – ‘Believe’ only lasted atop the singles chart a week before the Grammy winning crooner reclaimed the spot.

To date, the soaring single may be songbird’s only flight to the Hot 100’s perch, but in 2016 it’s clear the purpose it served:  to introduce the world to the magnificent vocalist that is Fantasia.  Today, unlike many of her fellow ‘Idol’ alums, the world is still singing her songs (and her praises).

‘The Hollywood Reporter‘s Drama Actor Roundtable welcomed Cuba Gooding Jr, Rami Malek, Forest Whitaker, Bobby Cannavale, Paul Giamatti, Wagner Moura to its family this year.

There, the actors bared all on their latest movie roles, the processes they employed to commit to them and their thoughts on Hollywood as it is today.

It makes for an interesting, especially because it sees Cuba reveal that he fears he may have been scarred psychologically by his portrayal of O.J. Simpson .

Jidenna‘s newest jam sees the Wondaland star embrace his West African roots.

The singer, who snatched the attention of the masses with last year’s ‘Classic Man’ has routinely celebrated his Nigerian heritage and continues to do so on new single ‘Little Bit More.’ 

Coated in Naija flavour (thanks to pronounced talking drums), the mid-tempo groove manages to fit in effortlessly in a climate that is more welcoming than to tracks of the “tropical” persuasion. Case in point cuts such as Drake’s ‘Controlla,’ Rihanna’s ‘Work,’ and Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry.’
