In recent years, R. Kelly‘s televised appearances have been somewhat of a rare occurrence.

However, with new album ‘Black Panties’ on the horizon (as well as the chart success of Lady  GaGa duet ‘Do What U Want’), the R&B maestro has been uber visible of late.

The Pied Piper’s most recent stop was Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, where he dished on ‘Panties’, new instalments of Trapped In The Closet, and…‘The McDonalds Song’.

Retirement.

In recent years, it’s a topic routinely brought up following most Britney Spears performances; and a topic debated even more so these days following the singer’s lack of promotion for new album ‘Britney Jean’.

Reps for the star’s upcoming Las Vegas residency ‘A Piece Of Me’ claim that the nature of the star’s deal means she is unable to perform anywhere in the US during the show’s two-year run. Not any award show, not a tour. Nothing. Much to the disappointment of fans.

Yet with “disappointment” being the general consensus anytime Spears takes to the stage, even sects of her loyalest supporters believe it best she takes an indefinite break.

On course to outperform its predecessor ‘Applause‘ in the US, the jam’s international success is to thank for the air of positivity currently surrounding its supporting LP ‘ARTPOP‘, which now sits at sales of 750,000 units worldwide.

Much to the joy of her faithful lambs, Grammy winning pop diva Mariah Carey brought a slew of Christmas classics to the 81st Annual Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting in New York City.

Joining a line-up that featured Toni Braxton, Mary J. Blige, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, and diva-in-training Ariana Grande, the diva pulled a two-for-two on the NBC-aired program with classics ‘Joy To the World’ and her holiday staple ‘All I Want For Christmas’.

Immediately after, Grande took to the stage to share her rendition of ‘Last Christmas’ and her song ‘Love Is Everything’.  See the sights and sounds of them all below:

Late 2011 saw R. Kelly announce he would be unveiling over 30 new chapters to his hit “hip-hopera” ‘Trapped In the Closet’.  Now, R&B’s self-proclaimed ‘Pied Piper’ is following up on the promise with reports that he will follow-up 2013’s ‘Chapter 33’ (seen above) with a series of new chapters due 2014.

Via Billboard:

“…he announced that new chapters of his ongoing hip-hopera “Trapped in the Closet” will come out next year, debuting on the cable channel IFC

A statement on IFC’s official site promises “more drama, more crazy situations, more tumultuous relationships, more Sylvester, more Pimp Lucius, more Reverend Mosely, more everything that you love about ‘Trapped in the Closet.'”

Titled ‘A Wonderful Christmas With Ashanti’, the 5-song effort rings as the singer’s first yuletide flavored offering ten years (second overall to 2003’s ‘Ashanti’s Christmas’ featuring the tune ‘Christmas Time Again’).
