Three seasons after its May 2010 launch, Neil Cross‘ ‘Luther’ has now set its sights on the big screen, readying the arrival of its big screen debut in 2014!
Announced by Cross at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, the BBC crime drama now has a film script in place, taking audiences back to the beginning of the series’ story- which stars ‘Thor’ actor Idris Elba and ‘Byzantium‘s Warren Brown, returning as Justin Ripley- murdered in Season 3 but alive when the flick’s tale takes place.
On the project, Cross explains:
‘I’ve written the script and we hope to get the film made next year. Idris is a brilliant leading man and we’ve hoped to turn Luther into a movie for a long time.’It will follow his career in the earlier days, when he is still married to Zoe, and the final scene in the film is the first of the initial TV series.’
Confirmation of the release comes after its four episode long third season drew in a combined audience of 23.91 million viewers but before the November 29th arrival of ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom‘, which sees Elba play the South African revolutionary alongside ‘Skyfall’ actress Naomie Harris, set to serve as his ex-wife Winnie Mandela.
