Who would have thought that in spite of her immense talent as a singer and songwriter, ‘Kandi the Reality Star’ would be more successful than ‘Kandi the Artist’. Her resurgence in popularity in relevance thanks to Bravo‘s RHOA confirm the above statement.

Apparently Bravo agrees. The premium cable network has green-lit Kandi’s ‘The Kandi Factory’ for a full season. The series will document the ‘Fly Above’ vocalist’s attempt to transform a local pop star hopeful into the real thing…for a day. While this is a terrific coup for Kandi, we can’t help but feel underwhelmed as a series documenting the recording of her next studio album would have been more more appreciated.

Last month Bravo did a test run of the series running a one time special which garnered over 1.3 million viewers. Congratulations, Kandi girl!

You’ve read our review, so you’ll know that – unlike some sects – we actually enjoyed Nicki Minaj‘s sophomore offering ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’.

However, a sentiment we expressed has become one echoed in other critiques of the good, bad, and in-between persuasions:

The album is disjointed.

For all Ms. Minaj’s gusto and defiance, it’s abundantly clear that there was a real struggle to please both her Pop and Hip-Hop audiences. And while it’s a relatively “good” problem to have, it’s a problem which we feel could have been easily avoided with a more tactile approach.

Indeed, instead of a tracklist which divides the album like Moses did the Red Sea, surely it would have benefitted all to go the extra mile and conjure up a “themed” double-disc of sorts?

With the industry not making it rain like it used to, one could argue the “physical double-disc” may be a stretch. However, when an act drops a 19-track album, backed by an International media-blitz, it’s clear “coin” isn’t an issue.

Hence,  something akin to Beyonce‘s ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’ project is ultimately what her Sophomore Dr should have ordered. A simple setup which would create ample space for Nicki to appease her “mixtape” and “Mindy” fans. Heck, even if not a double disc, then even an interlude would suffice in adequately teasing apart “Nicki” and “Roman”.

Still, with the LP on course to hit #1, what’s done is done. That said, we can only hope such suggestion serves as food for thought heading into her third studio outing.

Your thoughts?

Following their hilarious exchange on last week’s American Idol, reports surrounding a feud between Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Lopez have been doing the rounds this week- in time for the release of the former’s new LP.

Starting when Lopez playfully declined Minaj’s request to join the ‘Idol’ panel as a guest judge, some onlookers questioned how ‘playful’ the pair were actually being, citing the confused look Jennifer gave Nicki after her performance as the reason why.

Yesterday- for the first time since it happened- Nicki addressed the matter during an interview with Elvis Duran, also using the opportunity to confirm the birth of her own clothing line.
