It’s third album time for Sam Smith and the Pop star is wasting no time lifting the lid on the hotly anticipated project – which now has a confirmed title, ‘To Die For.’
Not even the combined girl power of hitmakers Megan Thee Stallion, Summer Walker, Normani, Halsey, Doja Cat, Saweetie, and more were enough to help DC’s ‘Birds of Prey’ soundtrack soar to the top of the Billboard 200, a feat evidenced by its predicted first week sales.
The project, released on February 7 to coincide with the premiere of the film of the same name, was preceded by singles Stallion & Normani’s ‘Diamonds,’ Saweetie’s ‘Sway with Me,’ and Doja Cat‘s ‘Boss B*tch’ – all of which failed to impact the Hot 100 (as of time reported). A demonstration of the lack of buzz accompanying the soundtrack, said absent anticipation was realized once industry analysts unveiled their sales forecast for the week’s top-selling efforts.
Unfortunately, ‘Prey’s companion album is not among them. Details inside:
From The Vault journeys back to 2001, a year in which newcomer Blu Cantrell was released her debut single ‘Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops).’ The tune is today’s pick.
Produced and penned by Dallas Austin, ‘Style’ took the then-trend of male bashing anthems to a whole other level.
An instructional manual of sorts, it unpacked a narrative about how ladies should take revenge on cheating baes by making them pay for the damage they’ve done – via the selling of their possessions and emptying their bank accounts.
It was Blu’s biggest hit in the US, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Worldwide, it reached the 12th position in the UK, got to #7 in Canada and #3 in Australia. Additionally, ‘Style’ was nominated for the GRAMMY for Best R&B song in 2002. Not too bad for a debut single.
In the track’s accompanying video, Cantrell’s motive seems to be “shop ‘til you drop.” Indeed, she hits the shopping mall and organizes a yard sale in a bid to squander her trifling boyfriend’s fortune after he did her wrong. When a woman’s fed up, ay.
Almost two decades later, this song is still a genre favorite and rightfully so. With its timeless production and engaging storytelling, it’s an R&B gem that could be released today and still enjoy a successful moment.
Except for monumental worldwide hit ‘Breathe’ two years later, Blu was never really able to return to that level of success and recognition, at least not on home-soil. Anyhow, she delivered a classic for the ages that will surely continue to stand the test of time.
As DC’s ‘Birds of Prey’ film took off in theaters across the United States on Friday (February 7), its companion album – the official movie soundtrack – entered the musical realm to compete for Billboard’s top spot.
A serious taste of girl-power, the female-filled project – kicked off by the high octane ‘Diamonds’ (Megan Thee Stallion, Normani) – assembled a wide range of talented women across Pop, Rock, Rap, and other genres to fill out its exclusive 15-song tracklist. In addition to calling on chart-topping hitmakers like Megan Thee Stallion, Halsey, and Summer Walker, popular Hip Hop acts Doja Cat and Saweetie are are among the ladies leading tunes on the set.
Now, after ample teasing via its singles, the effort is available to be heard in full. Check it out inside:
Syleena Johnson brought her brand of real to The Breakfast Club this morning.
The seasoned R&B songbird nested on the hit Power 105.1 show in support of her 10th studio album ‘Woman,’ which was recently released.
Ever candid, she beyond promoting the project, the ‘Sister Circle’ host opened up about record label politics, her musical journey with Kanye West, her thoughts on former collaborator R. Kelly, becoming a body builder, and so much more.
The Pussycat Dolls have premiered the video for pulsating new single ‘React.’
Directed by Bradley & Pablo, the visual serves as the first offering from the Pop felines in a decade.
And it does not disappoint.
An all-out dance-affair, the clip sees Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Carmit Bachar, and Kimberly Wyatt werk it like only they can.
Really, though? What are you waiting for? Watch the ‘React’ video below…
With more Hot 100 appearances than any other female artist in history (106 to be exact), it’s pretty clear Nicki Minaj fans – affectionately called #Barbz – aren’t the only ones who have celebrated the diva’s collage of hits over the years.
Yet, while numbers from her discography are among the last decade’s most memorable, a recent interview saw her reveal she wished she could forget at least some of them.
Sitting down with her manager, Irving Azoff, for a keynote conversation at this year’s Pollstar Live conference in Los Angeles, the outspoken and colorful Minaj covered a kaleidoscope of topics including Trump, coming out of “retirement,” Kobe Bryant, and – of course – her signature hits.
Needless to say, the 37-year-old left the people with quite a few tongue-wagging quotes. See highlights inside:
Victoria Monet has unzipped scintillating new single ‘Moment.’
Arriving after the equally titillating ‘A** Like That,’ the butter-smooth bop makes no secret of its bedroom agenda.
Explaining the song in further depth, Monet – who has penned huge hits for Ariana Grande – said:
“Moment is a song about lust transformed to reality. A psychedelic, musical mini world for a sensual dream that comes true after building tension. It’s a song encouraging a lover to step up to the beauty once imagined and make the satisfaction worth all of the salivation at last.”
Super Bowl LIV is proving itself to be the gift that keeps on giving; just ask its halftime show performers – Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
As we previously reported, the latter – just a day after the event – saw her name atop iTunes real time sales charts with hits ‘Whenever, Wherever,’ ‘Hips Don’t Lie,’ and more. Unseating some of today’s top hits (including numbers from Taylor Swift, Roddy Ricch, and more), the commercial response to her hip-winding performance Sunday night (February 2) even left Lopez’s hits in the dust as those tunes (i.e. ‘Waiting for Tonight,’ ‘On the Floor’) were found on the sales tally’s lower end.
Conversely, reports now reveal fans of the ‘I’m Real’ star – affectionately called #JLovers – are really showing their love via streaming services. There, she’s outpacing her Colombian co-star by a considerable margin.
Just a month after kicking the new year off with new song, ‘Eleven’ (click here to listen), Urban Pop crooner Khalid is back with its follow-up, ‘Know Your Worth.’
Like his Grammy-nominated cut, ‘Talk,’ ‘Worth’ sees the Texas native unite with production duo Disclosure. Unlike ‘Talk,’ ‘Worth’ is an uplifting tune which sets out to encourage listeners to believe in themselves.
“You don’t know your worth/ All the things I know that you deserve/ Say it’s not real if it doesn’t hurt/ Find someone you know will put you first/ Find someone who loves you at your worst,” he croons on the chorus.
