What do you think of the video?

Kanye West - 'Love Lockdown' Following Kanye’s debut of new single ‘Love Lockdown’ at the VMA’s last Sunday, the studio version of the cut has surfaced. With the Chi-Town rapper not actually rapping lol, this one really requires one to open their mind to ‘get it’. I’m really liking this one all the same though. Kudos to Kanye for stepping out of the box.
‘Love Lockdown’ is the first single to be lifted from Kanye’s forthcoming LP ‘808’s and Heartbreak’, due December 16th (get them Xmas sales, Kanye!).

Rihanna Lines Up 'Breaking Dishes'It seems Rihanna’s team have saved the best till last; word has it ‘Breaking Dishes’ is the official next single to be lifted from the Bajan star’s LP ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’. Fans and critics alike have been calling for the song’s release ever since the album dropped back in April 2007.

Granted it’s good to see the song (definitely one of the so-so album’s best) get the single treatment, they really could have spared me alot of the nonsense they released in-between (i.e. ‘Shut Up & Drive’). What is this, single 7 or 8? I’m convinced had the right singles been released (and Ms. Fenty actually being up to the job of doing them justice live), the sales of her album would have been what one would expect at this stage (which currently stand barely past the 2million mark, despite 3 #1’s and a re-release).

The 2008 Fashion Rocks aired last night in the US. Check out the performances from the big show below (many thanks to our awesome affiliate site The Celebrity Network). That Grape Juice is on location at the 2008 MOBO Awards Nominations Launch in Central London (exciting stuff), so expect a review of the performances a bit later in the day. Keep it locked on TGJ as you would normally, as updates will still be posted. Thanks 🙂

Usher & Tameka Expecting Again? Word has it Usher and wife Tameka are be expecting their second child:

Usher is going to be a father for the second time. The R&B star and his wife Tameka Foster are expecting their second child together, a source close to the singer confirms. Recently, Foster was spotted wearing a belly-disguising outfit during Usher’s Sept. 4 NFL kick-off concert in New York. The dress was “very deceiving,” the source says. “You couldn’t tell she was pregnant when she was sitting down.” {Source}

If true, this would be the second child for the R&B star, while the 5th for Tameka. There’s been so much controversy surrounding their union (and will likely continue to be), however I wish them the best.

Ciara - 'Work (ft. Missy Elliott) As Ciara’s brand new single ‘Go Girl’ continues to receive mixed reactions, another track from her forthcoming 3rd album ‘Fantasy Ride’ has surfaced. Produced by Danja, the Missy Elliott assisted ‘Work’ certainly has all the ‘thump’ of high-octane Ciara offering, while boasting Missy’s quirky uniqueness. An interesting cut to say the least.

Hit or Miss?

She's Back...Beyonce, That Is!After almost a year hiatus, Beyonce is set to return to the music scene this October with not one, but two singles. Check out the press release released by her camp earlier today:

NEW YORK, Sept 09, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Music World Music/Columbia Records will release the third full-length studio album from the international superstar and cultural icon Beyonce on Tuesday, November 18.

One of 2008’s most hotly anticipated new album releases, Beyonce’s as-yet-untitled upcoming album marks the artist’s first new studio collection since the Grammy-winning multi-platinum-selling B’Day debuted at #1 on charts around the world shortly after its international release on September 4, 2006 (in celebration of Beyonce’s 25th birthday).

Beyonce’s fans will get their first glimpse of the artist’s new album with the simultaneous release of two of the album’s key tracks — “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies” — scheduled to impact radio on October 7.
With all songs co-written and co-produced by Beyonce, the artist’s third studio album is her most personal, reflective and revelatory collection to-date.

Lensed live at Radio City Music Hall on September 5, Beyonce’s spectacular performance at the “Fashion Rocks” fifth anniversary extravaganza, a star-studded concert honoring the relationship between music and fashion, will be broadcast on CBS on Tuesday, September 9 at 9pm (ET/PT). Please check your local listings. {Source}

The timing of her ‘return’ couldn’t have come sooner; with all the so-so material we’ve been subjected to from ‘singers’ who can’t/don’t sing (I won’t say no names), it’s great to see that the ‘queen of the pack’, so to speak, is coming back. No doubt this one will be an ‘event’ in itself…one I’m highly anticipating.

Pop superstar Janet Jackson performed at the America United concert in support of the US troops back in June. The event, which also featured performances from the likes of Ne-Yo and Snoop Dogg, aired on ABC early this week. Check out Ms. Jackson’s performance of ‘Rhythm Nation’ and ‘LUV’ below {Thanks Josh!}:

Janet nailed it! The intro was real cool too. This has me amped to see what she’ll be serving up on her forthcoming ‘Rock Witchu Tour’, which kicks off this Thursday in Vancouver.

That Grape Juice UpdateJust thought I’d check in with you guys and let you know what’s happening ‘behind the scenes’ (figuratively speaking lol):
* I was fortunate to enough to finally interview Ashanti last night via phone from her home. She spoke candidly to That Grape Juice about the her latest album ‘The Declaration’ (including its sales), participating in the Stand Up 2 Cancer song ‘Just Stand Up’ with Beyonce and co, as well as…Nelly lol. Be on the look-out for the interview at the top of next week.
* Still awaiting the additional interview time with Ne-Yo. In the meanwhile, I’ll likely hit you up with the interview in its current form this week or next.
* As stated a while back, the site’s mailbox receives (literally) upwards of 100 emails daily, so I am trying my hardest to respond to as many as possible. Please bare with me 🙂
* It’s great to see so many of you liking the site’s new layout. For those asking why Rihanna is in the banner, while I may not be the biggest fan of Ms. Fenty, she does take a serious picture, I’m sure you’ll agree!
* That Grape Juice has finalized something I’m sure many of you will like…as in *really* like. All will be revealed in the very near future (basically next week lol lol lol).

You know where to keep it locked… That Grape Juice!

And there you have it; the MTV Video Music Awards are over for another year. For all the hype and hysteria, this year’s show failed to deliver on many a front, offering a few genuinely worthwhile moments during an otherwise lacklustre 2 ½ hour telecast.Though it was awesome to see Britney both looking and acting like the Britney everyone knows and loves, I’m sitting here wondering what exactly the point of her segment was. Granted I seemed to be one of the few who didn’t want her to perform, if she was going to speak, it would have helped if it lasted more than 30 seconds. Damn.

Shambolic showing of the night, no doubt, belongs to Ms. Rihanna. Her rendition of ‘Disturbia’ had all the elements of a great performance (truly amazing stage set-up, overly on-point dancers etc)… that is until she opened her mouth. Billy Goat Gruff at her worst. Terrible, just terrible. Though, I must say she redeemed herself ever so slightly with her performance of ‘Live Your Life’ with T.I. (the faux-hood chick thing wasn’t working, though. No). Rihanna aside, Clifford was on fire.

Christina Aguilera’s first post-pregnancy performance was notable, not least because we were given our first look at her new musical/image direction (seems Xtina has embraced the Electro-Pop sound – jumped on the bandwagon, maybe?), more so the fact that 95% of the performance was lip-synched. She gets a pass, somewhat, as she’s already proven herself to be one this generation’s greatest vocalists. That said, I’m still not entirely sold on ‘Keeps Gettin’ Better’ or this new direction of hers. I guess time will tell.

Is it bad that I haven’t (and don’t intend to) watch The Jonas Brothers or Kid Rock performances? LOL LOL…not enough time in the day…

I feel quite proud seeing Leona getting her shine over in the States, who would have ever envisioned a Lil’Wayne / Leona performance? As for Weezy’s showing with T-Pain, it was kinda ‘samey’ IMO.

Highlights of the night, no doubt, were Pink and Kanye West. Pink’s show-stopping performance of ‘So What’ really has me liking the song even more than before. While, Kanye’s debut of ‘sing song’ new single ‘Love Lockdown’ was great…a much needed spark of energy to close out an otherwise tired show.

One will, in future, be better off expecting exactly what is on the show’s ‘can’, as opposed to any surprises, seeing as the VMA’s ability to shock and awe seems like a distant memory. Having not turned in anything of substance since 2004, it seems the classic moments that made the VMA’s such a staple fixture on the music calendar have all but disappeared – the Michael/Nsync performance, Beyonce’s infamous ceiling entrance, Britney/Madonna/Christina….need I say more?

Your thoughts on performances / show overall?
