Adulthood catches up with Sam (Noel Clarke) upon his release from jail, having served 6 years for the manslaughter of rival Trife. The film follows his journey over 24 hours as he is forced to confront the people he has hurt, and see first-hand the effects of his actions all those years ago. Some have moved on, others are stuck with the repercussions of that night, but one thing’s for certain – everyone has been forced to grow up.
As Sam struggles to deal with his guilt and adjust to the outside world, he also has to deal with those seeking revenge for Trife’s death. As he is pursued through the streets of West London, he wonders if a new cycle of violence has started and if there is any way to bring an end to it as things start to escalate beyond his control.
That Grape Juice were fortunate enough to be invited to an early press screening of the film last week. As one who has always been rather scepitcal about the UK film industry – most especially the Urban branch – I was highly impressed with ‘Adulthood’. From the plot, to the acting, to the capturing of London life, the film really shines.
‘Adulthood’ Hits Cinema’s June 20th
The video for ‘Cuddle Up’, the first single to be lifted from Pretty Ricky’s forthcoming album ’80’s Babies’, premiered on BET just a few short hours ago. Put simply, the video is decent. I’m liking visual references to popular videos from the 80’s such as Salt N Peppa’s ‘Can’t Touch This’ etc. They were all kinds of wrong for the dance break with their new member 4-Play though – all kinds of wrong.
What do you think of the video?
An updated list of performers and presenters for the 2008 BET Awards received from this morning did not include Mariah. According to BET, “Since it’s a live show, there are always lots of last minute changes and updates.” We’ll let you know if we hear differently. Mariah is, however, expected to attend the awards proceedings.
It’s anyone’s guess why the performance was cancelled. At the risk of sound ‘a hater’, perhaps it was for the best, as Mariah’s recent performances have left a lot to be desired. Here’s hoping she can get her live performance game up to par once again.

MARY J. Blige has a heart the size of her record sales. Last week, Blige was at the Diane von Furstenberg store in the Meatpacking District when she overheard a girl having a problem at the register. A spy said, “The girl had a dress on hold that she loved, and the bill was $900. She thought it was only $500, and she couldn’t afford it.” Blige told the saleswoman, “Go get the girl. I want to pay for the balance on the dress.” The customer at first declined Blige’s offer but relented after the singer said, “I know what it’s like to want something and not be able to have it. I insist.” The customer wanted to send her a check for the balance, but Blige said, “Just enjoy it. I’m blessed, so let me do this.”
Good on Mary…

Damn. Whoever leaked that to the net was wrong for doing so; it’s really not a good look for Buck whichever way this mess turns out in the end. Still, saying that, it really drives home the shadiness that goes on behind the scenes; all the constant flaunting rappers like Buck do of a lifestyle they in reality don’t lead is made all the more evident here.
