As R&B songstress Brandy continues to mould her much anticipated new album – her first under new label Epic, a track, said to be from the record, has surfaced. Produced by The Underdogs, ‘The List’ is a well crafted cut that sounds unlike much of what is dominating the musical sphere at present – a good or potentially not so good thing, I guess. If the track, which features Brandy’s trademark vocal arrangements and harmonies, is indicative of the LP’s overall direction, I’m even more amped for her record than I previously was. As though ‘selling’ is no doubt a priority, there has always been something qualitatively that sets Brandy apart from the pack – even if her sound isn’t as readily serviceable to commercial radio as, say, your typical Rihanna track. Anyway, enough of my babbling…She did great, as usual. Though I must say that ‘Better With Time’ doesn’t really move me – at all. ‘Bleeding Love’ on the other hand, though played to death, still is enjoyable to see performed live – especially with the different adlibs and runs Leona added to the performance. Good stuff.

Not content with taking digs at Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri on previous occasions, rapper Khia has blasted the pair in her latest MySpace blog (warning: explicit language):Nowwwwwwww…… Jermaine Dupri…… I hear you was on Hot 97 in New York… Talking bout how I was ungrateful…………. And Miss Jones was FIRED right after dat!!!!!! If I’m ungrateful about anything its about the fact of how I SAVED the day for JANET….. And I couldn’t even be in the VIDEO…..But dats old news so why are we even still talking about it????? Janet’s album Flopped and DATS dat!!!!! I’m sorry……. Damn lol. How old was Brandy when ‘Moesha’ was on, again? Regardless, it was still pretty lame of him to start opening his mouth now about the supposed occurrences. Considering he has a project coming out, I guess that was the free publicity was rationale behind his loose mouth. It’s worked too. SMH…

I may be slightly partial to this one as I’ve been feeling the DJ Toomp produced cut for the longest. The video was pretty good; Mariah looks great too. With early radio spins being real healthy, Mariah looks like she may be onto a winner with this. Having felt kinda let down by the first two singles from ‘E=MC²’, this is definitely the most deserving of success from the LP’s releases thus far.
Random tidbit: Does anyone else smell a re-release of ‘E=MC²’ coming on, considering T.I.’s was put on the official video?

Will Smith’s much-anticipated new superhero flick ‘Hancock’ was simultaneously released in both US and UK yesterday. Though generally receiving a ‘so-so’ response from most critics, the film is poised to deliver Smith’s highest grossing debut to date, with early projections touting somewhere in the region of $80 Million being grossed in its first weekend.
The self-titled ‘Louis Vuitton Don’ Kanye West has collaborated with the fashion house to produce his own line – for both men and women. Check out the report via NME:The rapper showed up at the Vuitton show in Paris’ Jardins de Bagatelle on Friday (June 27) and told wwd.com ”I’m here for Louis” before revealing that he is working with the fashion giant on designed a men’s shoe line.
West, who was dressed entirely in his own clothing designs, also told the fashion site that he is working on a women’s wear collection which will debut this fall.
After all that free promo, it’s about time!
