This week’s music headlines have undoubtedly been dominated by chart champion Solange and her much deserved/long-awaited victory ‘A Seat at the Table.’ A critical homerun, the album – featuring the likes of Lil’ Wayne, The Dream, and so many more – mirrored that fanfare with an impressive 72k units shifted its first week of availability. The feat not only made it the week’s top-seller, but it also came as the singer’s best first week sales to date.
But, as the industry continues to sing Solo’s praises, there’s another chart slayer that continues its behind the scenes slayage in silence – ‘The Suicide Squad’ soundtrack. Developed in support of the 2016 Will Smith-led film of the same name (which has grossed over $740 million since its August premiere), the soundtrack’s run on the Billboard 200 also comes as nothing to shake a stick at.
Unleashed on August 5th, the album debuted at #1 the next week and has not once left the top 6 since. To add, at the end of September the RIAA announced it was the first and only soundtrack to go gold this year. Now, some two months after its release, the official motion picture soundtrack has moved an additional 38,000 SPS units and refuses to loosen its tight grip on the chart’s upper rankings.
