On Friday (August 28), an official representative for ‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman announced he had died after a 4-year battle with colon cancer (as we reported here).

Sending shockwaves across the industry, his fans rushed to social media to extend their condolences.  Among the late 43-year-old’s admirers and supporters were celebrities – some of whom shared screen time with the highly revered, award-winning actor.

Amber Riley is honoring her former ‘Glee’ cast-mate Naya Rivera.

The singer stopped by ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Thursday night, where she performed a touching tribute to the late actress with her new song ‘A Moment.’

Singing under the name Riley, the performance featured pictures of the 33-year-old that were projected behind her as she sang:

“Now I need a moment alone with my soul /  I can’t stop these thoughts /  I need these /  I’m ready to fight /  I’m ready to see what’s on the other side / I’m ready to cry and just let it be.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live guest host Lil Rel Howery introduced the performance with a tribute of her own, saying:

“Not too long ago, we both lost a really good friend in a tragic accident and we both will miss her forever.”

Rivera tragically passed away in July.

August 28 will mark the most jam-packed music release date of the year.

With artists racing to meet the Recording Academy’s updated August 31 cutoff for consideration at GRAMMYs 2021, some of music’s biggest acts circled the last Friday before the deadline to release their most highly anticipated offerings respectively.

In addition to Katy Perry delivering her long-awaited fifth studio album, ‘Smile,’ fellow Pop songstress Dua Lipa is breathing new life into her most recent hit LP – ‘Club Nostalgia’ – by unveiling its deluxe edition (featuring appearances from Queen of Pop Madonna, Missy Elliott, and more).  She’s not the only one;  fellow GRAMMY winner JoJo is reimagining her fourth studio album, ‘Good to Know,’ with a re-release set for the same date.

DC FanDome is the gift that keeps giving.

For, following first look trailers for ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ and ‘The Batman,’ the event brought with it a sizzle reveal of the full cast of ‘The Suicide Squad.’

Directed by James Gunn, the sequel to 2016 original sees much of the superhero ensemble re-assemble for their next adventure.

Viola Davis is back in the mix as Amanda Waller, while Idris Elba has joined fold as a replacement for Will Smith. Initially, cast as the fresh face behind Smith’s Deadshot, Elba is now an new character named BloodSport.

Barack Obama returned to the spotlight on the third day of the 2020 Democratic National Convention — and he did not hold back.

The US’ 44th president condemned sitting premier Donald Trump, claiming his presidency is “one more reality show” for him.

As for Trump’s progress, he stressed that he “hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t.”

The much-loved political figure stepped up in support of his former VP Joe Biden, who is making a bid for the White House in November’s election with Kamala Harris as his running-mate.

‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ has been under quite the spotlight of late, following  multiple accounts attesting to a “toxic” work environment.

Of note is that the host oft wasn’t presented as the central issue, but her alleged tolerance of the behaviors and aloofness of the reality of the show’s environment received heavy critique.

In a statement, DeGeneres promised changes and she’s delivering.

It’s been five months since Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old African American woman from Louisville, KY, was shot and killed in her home by police officers who executed a no-knock search warrant that wasn’t issued for her in the first place.

To date, none of the policemen reportedly responsible (Metro Police Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, Officer Myles Cosgrove and former Officer Brett Hankison) have been arrested in connection to the incident.

Despite open letters and demands generated by the likes of celebrity figures Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Cardi B, Kerry Washington, and more (as we reported here), the powers-that-be have yet to issue any progress on putting any suspects behind bars.

To provide another nudge, six-time NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving is teaming with BET Her to shine a spotlight on the tragic event in a TV special.

Emotions ran high this weekend, as it brought with it what would have been Nipsey Hussle‘s 35th birthday.

The rapper was shot to death on March 31 2019 outside his Marathon Clothing retail store in Los Angeles, California. A man named Eric Holder has since been arrested and charged with his murder; he is currently awaiting trial.

Beyond leaving behind a legacy of music and activism, the late MC also left behind friends and family – including longtime partner Lauren London. 

In his honor, the actress shared an impassioned message to the father of their son Kross.
