After helping HBO‘s ‘Entourage’ secure 25 Primetime Emmy nominations, ‘Clap‘ creator Saigon now calls VH1 home, enjoying a well-received run on the network’s hit series ‘Love & Hip Hop: New York.’

However, in a conversation with Hip Hop tastemaker DJ Vlad, the ‘Critically Acclaimed‘ performer revealed that filming the series was anything but straight forward, joining to raise more awareness for his music but soon found that a ‘familial feud’ with the mother of his son threaten to overshadow his cause.

Fortunately, as anyone tuned in will agree, it didn’t.

#Gladiators helped the highly anticipated return of ABC‘s ‘Scandal’ triumph over competitors this week with a whopping viewership.

Led by Emmy-nominated actress Kerry Washington, the seriesseason 3 opener opened to a series high of 10.5 million!  The story below:

Via THR:

“With so much of Thursday’s attention fixed on three brand-new comedies, the spotlight may have been stolen by ABC‘s Scandal. The drama returned to the 10 p.m. hour with series highs, averaging a 3.6 rating with adults 18-49 — a 71 percent jump year-over-year — and 10.5 million viewers.”

The news came as a surprise to Washington, who spent most of the night tweeting the show’s faithful followers.

Via AccessHollywood:

“It really is amazing! I’m so happy that so many people caught up with the show on Netflix and with the DVD during our hiatus,” she said. “It feels like we were able to have a lot of new Gladiator converts.”

Has ‘No Love Allowed‘ singer Rihanna been tipped to  play Josephine Baker in a forthcoming biopic? Fortunately for fans of the star, the answer to that question is yes.

For, in what will no doubt hand exposure to the project, producer W Lance Reynolds has revealed that he hopes to secure the chart topping chanteuse for the role- explaining:

“Rihanna is one of the most talented performers of this millennium and with her unique acting and performing abilities, I have no doubt she will bring Josephine back to life on the big screen.”

Reportedly pulling from Jo Bouillon‘s 1995 paperback ‘Josephine‘, rights to the flick have been purchased Noosa and comes 22 years after Time Warner‘s HBO unveiled the Emmy award winning ‘The Josephine Baker Story‘, starring Lynn Whitfield.

If Rihanna does take on the role, it’d no doubt mark her biggest cinematic release since Peter Berg‘s ‘Battleship’, distributed by Universal Pictures and co-starring True Blood frontman Alexander Skarsgard.

All of the monarchs of the music industry are resting securely on cemented thrones.  We have an undisputed Queen of Soul, King of Rock n’ Roll, King of R&B, and of course, a King of Pop.  Even though such title was initially self-proclaimed, there was no denying its delegation.  Interestingly, there is a vacancy on that list…the queen’s chair sits ostensibly empty.  And though many may vie and eye the throne, no woman has boldly professed herself as such (unlike her male counterpart).  So, it begs the question:  Who is the Queen of Pop?   While there are candidates many-a-fan would crown as such, there has been no definitively, unquestioned female pop potentate. And then…

In an age where the merit of ‘pop royalty’ is defined by fly-by-night radio hits and digital downloads, famed music magazine Rolling Stone developed an index of criteria to best crown the genre’s new queen.  For anyone who has been alive for the last three years (inhabitants of the animal kingdom included), it was a no brainer that Lady Gaga would be enthroned the genre’s reigning female monarch.  However, the list, which only included Pop’s active acts, was greeted with so much backlash it was later revised.

But, even the revision still featured Lady Gaga (a relative newcomer) above legends Mariah Carey and Celine Dion (with no mention of Janet Jackson or Whitney Houston).  While the magazine’s attempt to fill the void is applaudable, it is also laughable.  With music’s other matronly monarchs having a spate of success under their individual belts, is it really fair to say the Lady named queen would only have two albums under hers and less than 5 years in the game?

Thusly, That Grape wants to know:  what should be the criteria for determining queenship? Sales? Influence?  Awards?  If so, with so many candidates, who is the Queen[Q1] ?

That Grape Juice has chosen six leading ladies who would probably be the real contenders for the throne.  Each of the succeeding songstresses have, at minimum, 20 years experience,100 million records sold, and immeasurable influence over the industry (especially over those who decorated Rolling Stones’ list).  Did your fave make the cut?
