Here at That Grape Juice we operate from a standpoint of being fair and unbiased.

As such, while the world lashed Jay Z‘s TIDAL upon its ostentatious arrival back in May, we seemed to be in the minority of those opting to take a “wait and see” approach with the struggling streaming platform.

Yet, months on, the climate remains just as frosty for the service. So much so that a new report is suggesting the mogul is ready to exit the venture.

As Nicki Minaj‘s fans teem with anger over remarks made by her ex-boyfriend in his new number ‘Lifeline’ her new boyfriend Meek Mill continues to see his brand rocked by the force that is Drake.

The latter’s fans will be aware of Mill’s claims that he employs ghostwriters to create his material for him and of Drake‘s first response on the song ‘Charged Up.’

However, what they may not know is that Drake has recorded another number designed to mock Mill’s supposed dependency on Minaj and his attempt to rattle his career’s cage.

If recent reports are anything to go by, it appears Terrence Howard‘s portrayal of ‘Empire’s cut-throat dad Lucious Lyons isn’t too far from real life.

For, in an explosive accusation lifted via lawsuit courtesy of his ex-wife Michelle Ghent, Howard kicked, choked, dragged, and threatened to kill his former spouse during an altercation two years ago.

This, according to Ghent, came on the heels of years of emotional distress, defamation, physical abuse, and other implied threats.  Details below:

The-Weeknd-thatgrapejuice

If ever silent slayage had a face it would probably look like The Weeknd.

Sure, the Canadian crooner may not dominate headlines like his more famous Urban/hip-hop influenced counterparts, but the absence from tabloids and blog headlines has not come with an absence of dominance of charts.  Case in point?  A quick peruse of this week’s Hot 100.

Once there, you’ll discover Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd’s real name) not once, but twice in the top 10 with his latest single ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ slowly but surely feeling its way to number 1.  His multiple appearances in the tally’s upper dectet has only cemented less places for females as – much like 2014 – males continue control of the Hot 100.

In 2014 the Grammy-nominated rapper Iggy Azalea saw her artistic credibility drown in embarrassing waters when one of her close friends stepped forward to claim that he had penned her breakout single ‘Fancy.’

Pop audiences struggled to understand why or how the news went a long way to tarnish her already questionable public image.

Now, as UMG sibling Drake faces similar claims a ghostwriter has stepped forward to reveal just how he or she made a fortune building bops in a game where discretion isn’t always 100% guaranteed.

Second single.

For a new artist who smashed with their debut, following up with another hit is always a tall order.

Undeterred, ‘Somebody’ singer Natalie La Rose makes a bold attempt to cement her name in the minds of the masses with new single ‘All Around The World.’

To aid her cause, the Flo Rida protege – who hit #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 on her first swing of the bat – has tapped MC of the moment Fetty Wap.

Having proved an infallible streaming force with ‘Somebody’ can the Dutch bred ex dancer sustain interest with the ‘World’ visual?

Welcome back to TGJ Replay!

Designed much like our ‘Retro Rewind’ and ‘From the Vault’ features, ‘Replay’ is That Grape Juice‘s newest reflective segment to act as a written quest to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday. Unlike its TGJ retrospective predecessors, ‘Replay’ looks to dust off and showcase entire albums (and eras) from a library of pop and Urban pop music hits.

Now, as she celebrates her 46th birthday today, we’ll book a time trip back to 2002 to salute the release of ‘This Is Me…Then’ – the third album of media mogul Jennifer Lopez.
