This week’s From The Vault pays homage to one of the greatest albums of the contemporary era – Mariah Carey‘s ‘Butterfly’ ahead of its 25th anniversary.
Today’s pick is one of its anchoring singles, ‘My All.’
Rolled out as the fifth single from Mimi’s sixth studio LP, the soaring ballad was both written and produced by the songbird alongside her longtime collaborator Walter Afanasieff.
Lyrically, the track tackles the topic of deep infatuation and the feeling of wanting to risk it all for a night of passion with “the one.”
Vocally, as is trademark, Carey took flight and launched into melismatic magnificence.
The masses were magnetized and lifted the song to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the top 10 of tallies across the globe – including #4 on the Official UK Singles Chart.
Shot in Puerto Rico, the song’s monochrome video was lensed by Herb Ritts and showcased the diva enchanted by her love interest. A literal take, of sorts, on the cut’s lyrical narrative.
****************
Beyond her powerful pipes, one of Carey’s main attraction talents is her ability to lasso listeners with compelling storytelling and vivid visuals.
As the 25th anniversary of ‘Butterfly’ approaches, we can’t but be filled with all sorts of appreciation for this legendary chanteuse.
Ray J has gone nuclear on Kris Jenner after the Kardashian matriarch took a lie detector test to prove that she wasn’t involved in the leaking and promotion of his now infamous sex tape with Kim Kardashian.
As widely known, the intimate video catapulted Kim and her clan into the mainstream of Pop culture and the circumstances surrounding its surfacing have remained somewhat of a mystery. Indeed, claims range from the unauthorized leak being genuine to it being a purposeful play for prominence.
Now, in the wake of Kris’ polygraph test on The Late Late Show with James Corden (which she appeared to pass), Ray has slammed the Kardashians for what he brands a “fake lie detector test” carried out by a “fraud” and the “inhumane” way his name is being tarnished as a result.

Barely past the backlash that ensued after his unprovoked verbal attack of singer Lizzo (as we reported here), Aries Spears soon after learned that he and fellow actor-comedian Tiffany Haddish were the center of a shocking lawsuit that alleges they had two minors performing sexually suggestive acts.
The minors were also stars of a resurfaced disturbing comedy skit featuring Spears and Haddish that saw him portray a pedophilic uncle.
Although he remained mum for some time after the story first broke last week, Haddish – who labeled the lawsuit a ‘shakedown’ -quickly offered an apology for participating in the failed comedy showing.
This week, Aries followed by breaking his silence. Look inside to see what he said.
