Deborah Cox’s 1998 hit ‘Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here’ serves as this week’s classic From The Vault video. The song, which stands as Cox’s biggest hit to date, spent a record 14 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Chart (record tied with Mariah’s ‘We Belong Together’). A criminally underrated talent if there ever was one, it’s great to see Deborah achieve such a feat with such an amazing track. Awesome vocal performance, with an accompanying video that does the song justice.

Keri Hilson - 'Slow Dance'Recently, ‘Slow Dance’, a new cut from Keri Hilson’s hotly anticipated album ‘In A Perfect World’ surfaced. Produced by Polow Da Don (and co-written by Justin Timberlake), it comes as no surprise, then, that the song bares slight resemblance to Ciara’s ‘Promise’ – also produced by the Atlanta hit-maker.

Keri really seems to be on to a winner with this album of hers; each track I’ve heard thu far has been top notch – this included.
‘In A Perfect World’ hits stores October 7th.

{Many thanks to everybody and their Mama who forwarded this one along! LOL}

Brandy - 'First N' Luv' (Snippet) With Brandy’s ‘comeback’ single ‘Right Here (Departed)’ heating up the airwaves, a snippet of, what is said to be, the 2nd single from her forthcoming ‘Human’ LP has surfaced. Produced by Hit Boy, ‘First N’ Luv’ isn’t really sounding like the follow-up I’d been expecting.
Though I never tire of Brandy’s trademark airy delivery/vocal arrangements, the busy/all over the place production makes for a pretty hard listen. Potentially a grower, though; so I will reserve full judgement until hearing the track in its entirety.

Cassie - 'Soldier 4 Love'
Confirmed as not being Cassie (too good to be true, eh? lol)

As with all Cassie music, I admittedly greeted this new cut ‘Solider 4 Love’ with skepticism. I’m was pleased to find, though, that the track, said to be from her forthcoming LP, is actually…dare I say it…pretty good. The beat goes hard and Cassie (am I really about to type this?) sounded half-decent. Scratch that, the girl sounded good! LOL..

Ne-Yo Covers 'Take A Bow' Ne-Yo stopped by the UK’s top Urban radio station 1Xtra earlier today to promote his upcoming ‘Year of The Gentleman’ LP. The talented singer/songwriter also performed a rendition of Rihanna’s #1 smash ‘Take A Bow’. I’m really liking his take, on the otherwise, so-so track.

Ja Rule - 'Pushin' It (ft. Robin Thicke)'Following the indefinite postponement of Ja Rule’s ‘The Mirror’ LP, many, including myself, have been questioning what exactly is going on with the one-time chart topper. ‘Pushin’ It’, a new Robin Thicke assisted track, presumed to be from the album, surfaced recently. Though the track, which samples Rick Ross’ ‘Push It’, is pretty solid, it leaves a lot to be desired – most especially Thicke’s showing on the hook. With Ja’s career, no doubt, in need of urgent resuscitation, he’s gonna need to come harder than this to come anywhere close to the level of relevance he once commanded.

Ne-Yo - 'Miss Independent'With R&B star Ne-Yo gearing up for the release of his third studio album ‘Year of The Gentleman’ (due August 5th), the LP’s second official single -‘Miss Independent’- has surfaced. While ‘Closer’ exhibited a more Euro-Pop sound, ‘Miss Independent’ is, no doubt, familiar territory for the singer/songwriter musically. The mid-tempo cut sounds like a progression of the sound Ne-Yo championed on his first (and IMO best) LP. Good stuff.

Mariah & Nick At Disney World Newlyweds Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon were snapped at Disney World Florida yesterday. The pair enjoyed time at the resort, having been on vacation in the Bahamas for the last weeks. Good to see that married life is treating them well.

Ciara – So Hard

As I’ve detailed in the past, Ciara’s 2006 sophomore effort ‘The Evolution’ was indeed pretty solid, yet offered little in the way of what its title declared – evolution (from her first LP). That said, one of the album’s definite standout cuts was the Bryan Michael-Cox produced ‘So Hard’. Reminiscent of Cox’s now trademark ‘Crunk Ballad’ sound, the track IMO is right up there with the brilliance that is ‘Promise’. What Ciara lacks in vocal prowess, is compensated by the sheer emotion the song evokes. In simpler terms (lol), you both feel and believe what she’s singing. A must listen.

Ne-Yo – Make It Work

Lifted from Ne-Yo’s 2007 effort ‘Because of You’, ‘Make It Work’ is all that we have to expect from a top notch ‘Ne-Yo’ track. Laced with lush harmonies and a killer hook, the song IMO would have made for a great single; something I’m pretty perplexed didn’t occur, considering it really was a smash hit just waiting to happen.

Sugababes – Freak Like Me

Undeniably the UK’s biggest and most talented girl group (I did say ‘talented’, so no Girls Aloud included lol), the Sugababes were able to secure such a position no doubt in part to the success of their 2002 hit ‘Freak Like Me’. A more edgier, rock-tinged (yet still Urban) spin on the Adina Howard classic, the track served as the ladies first #1 and remained at the top for four straight weeks. Good stuff.

Timbaland – Fantasy (ft. Money)

Following Timbaland’s return to prominence in 2006 as a producer on major releases by the likes of Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake, the hit-maker also asserted his place in the contemporary industry with the release of his 2007 LP ‘Shock Value’. Featuring many a collabo, it was ‘Fantasy’, sung by the relatively unknown Universal/Blackground artist Money, that was one of my personal favourites from the slightly overrated album. With its sensual, whimsical sound, the track is a slickly produced and solidly performed cut.

Kelly Rowland Spotted In London Kelly Rowland Spotted In London
R&B star Kelly Rowland really does seems to have taken up a second citizenship of sorts over here in the UK; she’s often here more than she is in the US these days. The ‘Like This’ singer was snapped leaving London’s famed NOBU restaurant last night. Ms. Kelly’s looking good, indeed.
