Rihanna’s ‘Rated R’ Set To Flop

Published: Wednesday 25th Nov 2009 by Sam

According to Billboard, Rihanna’s much hyped ‘comeback’ album ‘Rated R’ is  on course to sell just 162,000 copies in its first week on sale. The news comes in the midst of her label okaying the LP being sold for $3.99, and eventually $0.99 in its opening week.

While I’ve given my own take on this many a time, I will say that it’s hardly surprising that the album is underperforming. After all, the label couldn’t have been acting in such a desperate manner if it was selling to begin with.

I doubt this signals the end of her career, as I’m sure many are hoping (which they shouldn’t…that’s bad karma lol). It just means we’ll probably be subject to 300 singles and 25 re-releases (including the Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Ultra Premium Deluxe, Spanish, Hebrew and Japanese versions…and of course the Super-Super Uber Ultra Premium Deluxe edition which comes with a DVD).

Oh well, in the words of Jay-Z himself:

“Men and women lie, but numbers don’t!”

Your thoughts?

    LMAO, POOR RIHANNA

TO THINK HER STANS WAS EXPECTING HER TO OPEN UP WITH SALES OF 300,000 HOW WRONG WERE THEY? THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR OVER CONFIDENT AND EXPECT THINGS TO ALWAYS GO YOUR WAY, YOU FAIL

  2. Ratchet November 25, 2009

It was only a matter of time. She and her team were stupid. Heather and Cindy weren’t buying this dirty, dark-girl s***. Watch. In another eight months the b**** will be back to a bob and singing sweet little ditty bop s*** again.

Lol Sam! While I’m a big fan of Ms’s RiRi I can’t say I’m suprised. This whole project has been handled very badly. I think the whole timing of her interview with Diane was in bad taste. Also, the direction she seems to have taken when it comes to her image is also to blame. Yes, with the last album she was rockin the edgy look with so much ease it looked so effortless. Now everything seems forced, it looks like RiRi is stuck somewhere but we can’t find her. I really hoped for her success but Chris kept releasing better songs but because of the obvious Rihanna’s got much more exposure. Looks like the Def Jam cash cows’ milk is sour this time round (I’m also talkin about a certain famous diva whom I love to bits)

    yep numbers don’t lie!!!!
watch in a minute her stans will come here to tell u that your opinion is biased!!!!but waht about the numbers with all the exposure that she has that’s the best she can do???
gggb was a good album but this one is a total mess and there’s no marketing to save that can save this s***!!!!

  8. DrChannard November 25, 2009

Hope you enjoyed your multiple orgasm … now plz move on.

  9. Malibongwe November 25, 2009

I’m sorry but the super super uber ultra premium deluxe edition bit has me in stitches.

  10. Pinkpop November 25, 2009

sam, you’re gonna get much hate in a few minutes. not from me though 😉
but as I said before, not hating, but this album and image of hers just doesn’t fit.
she meant to go “bad” on the last album (which was..no…2007…wow, 2 years “break”…hmmm…reminds me of all haters saying beyonce should stay away much longer…strange 😉 …but back to topic, there she meant to be “bad” which worked pretty well… but this slutty thing she represents now is just s***. and not because all little blonde girls won’t buy the record, a lot off fans get away right now.

If you’re going to run a blog read up on your facts:

most albums today generate about 125,000 and up in the first week so that’s not a flop and it decreases each year

I have more news on this 99 cent thing:

” on friday it’s black friday after you use a coupon on amazon only is when it will .99 cent
Get Rihanna’s new album Rated R on Amazon.com for only 99 cents, this week only!

The good people over at Amazon are having a Black Friday “$3 in MP3s” Sale this week until Black Friday (click here to learn more) and Rihanna’s new album Rated R is on sale for only $3.99 this week only on Amazon as well. Use your “$3 in MP3s” code to purchase Rated R and you can end up purchasing the album for only .99 cents! Don’t miss out, you have until this Friday only!

    source: http://www.islanddefjam.com/artist/news … istID=7366 ”

So the album is 3. 99 unless you use a coupon people haven’t mentioned that you will have to use a coupon and it will not continue after black friday and is only available at Amazon.com . This is only due to the thanksgiving holiday where many people are doing sales on items. ALSO ONLY IF YOU GET IT IN M**

If your logic is correct then Amerie’s album must have really sucked!

    (It didn’t, by the way…)

  13. Pinkpop November 25, 2009

C’mon folks… you all know that for Rihanna it can be considered as a flop.

  14. wtf November 25, 2009

ps, i am tha baddest bit*h in heels, this rihanna reign wont let up????.bwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh…shut your mouth and sit you ass down coz you have just being silenced

sounds like a flop ho to ME!

I’m actually not a fan of her or FIST Brown.. Or Beyonce! They are all overrated/overhyped!

But Rihanna and her team should have left this fake image alone. She def wasn’t a bad girl when Chris crossed her t’s and DOTTED her eyes, no shade.. Now she talkin about guns, grenades, and cussin like she has lost her mind.

And the stans can’t say “well she didn’t write the songs or create the image” when just a few weeks ago they were saying “she’s been extremely involved in this whole process, so the album will be amazing and personal BLAH BLAH BLAH”.. Trying to give her too much credit. Why are these lil girls tryin to FORCE artistry?? This ish is NOT organic! All of the shock tactics are getting old..

This may be the beginning of the return of true talent. PON THE 90’s!!!

  17. Jellybeansheen November 25, 2009

AHAHAHA… i didn’t know that the spawn of satan could show desperation… *kanye shrug* ohhhh well.

  18. RATED CHAD November 25, 2009

LMAO!!! I doubt that the Rihanna album will be a flop. I doubt that she has had a number one album before singles yes but album no. Besides noone really buys music like that anymore which is why I am thinking who really cares. Entertainers do not make money off album sales. Yes Rihanna is an international star. but to say thsi album is a flop becuase of 1st week sales is simply a joke. I am not the biggest Rihanna fan but even I know that this is not going to flop just because 1st week sales are less than 300k which I wasn’t even expecting. LMAO if you can at least get 100k in todays market good luck.

  19. jess November 25, 2009

The quote actuallyis ‘men lile, women lie, numbers don’t’

  20. bobs November 25, 2009

Sam, you have a lot of Rihanna fans who come to this site, including myself. You have seen so many of your favorite artists’ album sales hit (Amerie, Kelly Rowland, etc..) .. What really is wrong with you that you have to induce such intense anger and hurt amongst us Rihanna fans who come to this site looking for news?

Really, it’s disgusting. You’re worse than Perez Hilton because your tone has gotten progressively more abusive & worse over time. Shame on you. Shame. You’re feeding all these haters.

As for sales, maybe they are at 170. It’s also the biggest shopping weekend in the US this weekend at retail outlets, so I imagine everyone’s number will be bumped – as HDD can only apply their standard formula.

But give the girl credit where credit is due. She took a risk. The album is critically acclaimed, and she’s going to have to sell the material because it isn’t cookie cutter.

I dunno, someone changing their sounds so intensely and taking a risk isn’t bad. IMO, a flop is when someone plays it safe to the hilt – and fails.

  21. Imyourstar702 November 25, 2009

Sam stop hating, its really not becoming of you… when Beyonce was re-releasing 10,000 times i didn’t hear u complaining… #imjustsaying

  22. Nick November 25, 2009

guys just face it.. rihanna isnt talented. she isnt selling as expected..its ok…she sucks… TEam BReezy hahaha…

  23. SOOS November 25, 2009

Hmm SuBo (Susan Boyle)’s album is predicted to sell between 550-600k. Congratulations! Her voice is incredible!

  24. wtf November 25, 2009

dead @stans trying to find reasons to explain this mess…rihanna was the biggest pumped up artist this year…she got more attention than mj’ death and susan boyle combined…fher single and album were promoted on cnnn..face it, people are just not into her expect her few fans…half you in here or all over the blogs dnt even know who susan is or whether she was releasing an album and yet she is slaying rihanna who has been covered every sinlge day…how come the recession is not affecting her buyers but rihannas???ok forget susan, how about gaga, adam, who are out selling her..why are their buyers also not being affected by the recession???she is a failure period and stop trying to find blame..you werent doing that when you were calling 500k last week…face it, gggb was a fluke..they took a risk and it worked..you cant call RR a risk…rihanna is not talented to keep changing when she feels like it…she aint not madona and that is where her and her fans get it twisted…dressing nice does not make you an artist..you need to work on your craft..rihanna and her team had the world at thier feet and decided to be arrogant..it backfired..as for the reviews the dumb as fans keep talking about, those are paid reviews..rihanna and her team also pay stations to get her spins..if you dnt know that, now you know…read up on payola and what its about…its simple, people just dnt feel her this time round and this has f***** her future…she may have a career but will never recover..even with 20 or 30 singles, people now see what she all about..her smokes and mirriors payed off when people were not paying too much attention into her gimmicks, now they are..people like gaga are delivering and she just aint..anyways when gggb was out she was just about the only one on the scene…next year, christina, britney, bey and so many more will be back..this was her chance and she blew it..the money that went into her will never be recovered….

ps, even if i dnt like bey that much..her numbers are good even if she releases 200 version…rihanna on the other hand needs to release 200 versions to get good numbers and that is the difference..her fans like to talk and pump her up but cant even spend 3.99 to get her cd..ok, let me correct that…they cant even spend 99c to buy her album…bwahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh….such a shame!!

  25. Imyourstar702 November 25, 2009

I doubt Chris Brown will sell more than Rihanna so i wouldn’t get too happy…

  26. Keke November 25, 2009

BEYONCE, GAGA, AND RIHANNA’S days are numbered, Susan Boyle is proving that talent is more than the flash of body or fashion, we are coming into a new age and quite frankly those the aforementioned won’t be able to do nuttin about it!

  27. Trey November 25, 2009

finally a place i can hate lol, the other rihanna topic had too many stans now we can really demolish the girl! facts are shes fugly shes a battered woman and shes dumb as f*ck, a long with that lady gaga, i seriously don’t know why y’all post on this girl or lady gaga waste of space and promotion for them lol

  28. Imyourstar702 November 25, 2009

    @KeKe

I agree look how the older artists are outselling these youngins lol Whitney, Barbara and Susan all went to #1 with pretty much no air play…its a sign of things to come, no one takes radio seriously anymore.

  29. samantha November 25, 2009

U.S. music retailers say they are realizing Susan Boyle’s dreams, as her album “I Dreamed A Dream” is blowing up way beyond sales expectations.

Label and distribution executives, meanwhile, project that based on early sales returns at the big box stores and pre-orders at direct marketers like Amazon and QVC, Boyle’s album is in contention to beat this year’s top debut-week seller, Eminem’s “Relapse.” That title scanned 608,000 units in the week ending May 24, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That week also represents the best overall sales week for an album this year.

Meanwhile, Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” is also outperforming sales expectations, despite-or perhaps because of-the risque performance he turned in at the American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 22. Label and distribution sources project that “For Your Entertainment” could sell about 225,000 units in its first week.

Likewise, Lady Gaga and her three-pronged sales attack on consumers’ purses is also much stronger than expected. Of the new “The Fame Monster” deluxe edition, “The Fame” original version, and “The Fame Monster” EP, also just issued, the former two combined could sell about 150,000 units while the EP is expected to top 200,000 units.

Of course, all estimates come with the caveat that sales projection models are built around a Tuesday release date, while this week new releases came out a day early on Monday, due to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

How well Boyle’s album performs will in part have to do with replenishment, as accounts reported that many stores are on the verge of being out of stock and re-orders have been placed. Based on past performances of hot-selling titles, Sony Music Entertainment likely will keep pace with demand. But it’s scrambling to do so, allocating product daily and making multiple shipments this week to each account. Sony Music’s ability to deliver product will be hampered by the holiday weekend, which begins Wednesday afternoon/evening.

While distribution projections for Boyle’s album start at the 550,000 mark, some executives are reluctant to guess how high it will go. If Sony can keep product rolling and if big boxes “have stock on Black Friday, who knows how well the album can do,” says one veteran prognosticator, who thinks the Boyle album will sell at least 700,000 copies this week.

Meanwhile, Adam Lambert’s shenanigans on the American Music Awards may have upset the sensibilities of viewers and gatekeepers at “Good Morning America,” which canceled his scheduled appearance on this morning’s show. However, the only impact his AMA performance has had on sales seems to have been positive.

Boyle, however, is proving to be the big story of the week. According to Hastings Entertainment senior VP of merchandising Alan Van Ongevalle, the album is outperforming the chain’s expectations. The chain has never performed well in mainstream pop albums, “so it’s doing extremely well for us,” he says. “Last week, John Mayer was our No. 1 record and that is in a genre we do reasonably well in, and so far in one day [Boyle] has done more than he sold all week. We are not out of stock yet on her, but we are heading that way quickly.”

Van Ongevalle adds that the chain placed a re-order before release date and that he expects to be in stock for the holiday weekend.

QVC reports that it had pre-orders of more than 81,000 units for the Boyle album, its best sales performance in ten years, while Amazon says the album has generated its largest global pre-order in its history. Amazon doesn’t disclose numbers, but sources say its U.S. pre-order alone reached 80,000 units.

Meanwhile, Rihanna’s “Rated R” is said to be underperforming expectations so far in its debut week, “which is weird because she is on television everywhere talking about Chris Brown and a lot of teenagers are looking up to her,” says the head of purchasing at a wholesale account.

  30. Mike November 25, 2009

It’s probably due to the fact that Rihanna’s album came out on the internet to download for free 3 weeks ago……….I feel like I’ve had her album for a while now

  31. parisian girl November 25, 2009

OMG!!poor riri!i was definitly right when i said i had a bad feeling about this era!
she betta milk this album with 1000singles if she wants to sell and stay relevant!!

  32. Pinkpop November 25, 2009

I knew the stans would bring Beyonces re-releases up.
    But let’s be fair.
She released standard and deluxe on the same day, so that doesn’t count.
The platinum edition was like a gift to fans, i,e. over here in germany we didn’t get
the Deluxe re-release. And there are no new hits on, what RiRi most defenitly will do
(see GGGB with Take a Bow, Disturbia) so it was really just about a fan gift.
The deluxe re-release was to celebrate 1 year anniversary.
the live albums/dvd… c’mon…don’t count either.
Remix, was just a few remixes, which by the way wasn’t released in germany as well.

  33. cabo November 25, 2009

    lovin the site!

  34. Pinkpop November 25, 2009

oh, and that comment bout internet surfacing… every album surfaces before official release

  35. trucie November 25, 2009

i bought the album and made my contribution. Its a great album by the way. All that jazz about the rereleases, Beyonce has set a good example so Riri should follow. I mean it’s the best form of flattery right.

  36. Michael November 25, 2009

Come people be real. Susan Boyle wouldn’t even be famous if she didn’t look like how she did when she first appeared on BGT. She’s had a crazy amount of world wide exposure, tons of youtube views and everyone hyping her up. All the songs on her album are covers, so people should give credit to Rihanna for trying something different. I think it’s a wicked album and isn’t as commercial as ‘GGGB’ so probably won’t do as well, but the thing with her is each album has a different sound. If people don’t wanna be open mined then seriously it’s their loss, there missing out on a great album.

  37. Dawon November 25, 2009

HA I KNEW THIS DAY WOULD COME! PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF THE GIMMICK ARTIST SUCH AS RIHANNA GETTING BY WITH NO TALENT!!!!!!

  38. thats not my name November 25, 2009

160 thousand sound good to me.. thats no f***** flop.. i wanna she were she ranked in the top 20 .. cuz i know its #1 ..hello goodbye..

  39. Dawon November 25, 2009

BEYONCE DID NOT RE-RELEASE “I AM …..SASHA FIERCE” SO WHOEVER SAID THAT HAS FAILED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEYONCE HAS SOLD 5 MILLION ALBUMS WORLDWIDE WITHOUT A RE-RELEASE IN 1 YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEAVE BEYONCE OUT OF THIS CAUSE CLEARLY SHE SELLING RECORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. philly November 25, 2009

    JUST LIKE BEYONCE DOES!!!!!

  41. Imyourstar702 November 25, 2009

    @ Michael

I agree Susan Boyle is nothing but hype!!!! BUT imma let her be great… lol

  42. Nye November 25, 2009

she’ll be fine…sold more than her GGGB album and u saw how HUGE that record ended up being…she’ll be ok. Let “Rude Boy” come out as a single it’ll be a album pusher…she has longevity when it comes to albums and sales…

  43. ziggy November 25, 2009

@ imyourstar…and what is Rihanna? At least Susan can SIng….what can Rihanna do? can she sing? no…is she a good performer? no…she is just beautiful….and that fades with age….all i know is that when I listen to music I want to hear some good s*** and when I pay money for a concert I want to hear some good singing…and decent dancing…SOMETHING! all Rihanna does is stand there and shake her head and wave her hands! I mean I understand being a fan but being a delusional stan….its sad. I feel sorry for Rihanna stans/fans. You had such great expectations for her and look…obviously there isnt enough of you or she would be doing better.

  44. D November 25, 2009

rihanna will come out at #4 behind boyle, gaga, and adam lambert. people consider this a flop because of the marketing dollars put into it. since def jam didn’t spend $ on amerie she will prob recoup more than rihanna unfortunately. so flop is based on how much you can recoup. yes rihanna hasn’t been #1 album but now she’s not doing #1 singles either. i suspect she will go back to bob and tone down after that

  45. D November 25, 2009

and if you sell your album for $3 and .99cents, on top of a major promotion , most major acts would produce much more than that in first week sales HENCE FLOP

  46. Bee November 25, 2009

I’m really confused how you talk slick about she’ll probably come out with a million re-releases, yet you didn’t say s*** about Beyonce doing that..or anybody else re-releasing their albums..??? I’m at a lost as to why you’re always picking on Rihanna over EVERYTHING she does..Okay, we get it, you don’t think she can sing, she’s no Beyonce (she never claimed to be the next Beyonce), she should be a model, blah blah blah…its getting really old. It seems like none of your favorite artist can do no wrong in your eyes, but when it comes to Rihanna, she gets tore down in every post you make about her..it’s sad.

  47. Quent November 25, 2009

I think that people are going to be really incensed, although misguidedly so, because I think that there is serious likelihood that Chris Brown’s album will do significantly better than Rhianna’s when released. First and foremost Brown despite his failings, what he did to Rhianna was untenable even if provoked, however Brown is a superior artist musically and is far more charismatic as compared to Rhianna. Further Brown and his handlers have done a much better job at managing the fallout from the imbriglio as compared to RiRi’s team. It seems that Brown camp addressed directly and then subsequently have tried to move beyond it and focus on the music. Rhianna’s team on the flipside seems to have tried to exploit the incident for coverage and exposure and might be on the receiving end of a small backlash.

  48. K4kenzo November 25, 2009

guess they shoulda funded better artists like Amerie etc . really think they spent too much time on her , forced image . not cheking for her anyway

  49. QING22 November 25, 2009

    tttttttt

  50. sabrina November 25, 2009

Some of yall are writing books on here. LoL. Anyway I just want to see the official numbers before I comment.

  51. Jmoore November 25, 2009

Sam, u crazy, i cant wait for the Hebrew version. the songs she released are wack! What does this say about def jam. You got the most talked about female artist in the last year…and def jam still managed to drop the ball…WOW 99 cents…..

  52. nick November 25, 2009

Its a shame because I thought it was a good album – better than her previous offerings. There is just too much product around at the moment – they should have put it back until the middle of 2010, same goes for Mariah, Mary J Blige and Leona Lewis.

  53. loldude November 25, 2009

“LOL” at all you people bringing up Beyonce. Don’t forget, Beyonce is milking her success because she was actually SELLING. I Am…Sasha Fierce is multi-platinum, and blew everyone out the water its first week. Rihanna stans, just accept the fact that your girl is faultering, and keep it moving.

  54. dillpickle November 25, 2009

    I agree with K4Kenzo.

  55. BMoore November 25, 2009

People keep saying that nobody buys music anymore and that is true somewhat. This is Rhianna though. If this was Kerrie, Brandy or anybody else I would expect first week sells to be that low.

  56. Jasmine November 25, 2009

I agree with the post. The reason why Sam is going in hard at Rihanna is because her label is trying to force-shove her in the public’s music collection. However, all the money spent in promotion was ill-fated because she is untalented. That money could have been used on more talented artists.

The reason people compare her to Beyonce is because Beyonce also receives a huge promotion budget for videos, re-releases, exposure, etc. The difference is that Beyonce sells records and is talented (vocally and she can dance).

  57. MRSJONES November 25, 2009

lmao @sam, you are a fool, so damn true though. i knew she was going to flop, this chick is over hyped, and her time is up. that’s enough said. will the next temporary “it girl” please stand up!

  58. Nicky November 25, 2009

Let’s see ….everyone on this site is an ignorant n*****!!!! Yall are in the box and think it stops with the US….

Rihanna is outselling Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert worldwide. She’s topped itunes albums chart at # 1 in over 12 countries.

Lady Gaga is projected to do 200k with a hIT F****** SINGLE…..

Like the other people say…..SAM is a gay f*****. a queen and probably will get his karma very soon. only a matter of time.

  59. loldude November 25, 2009

Wow Nicky, I hope you don’t have to eat those words when the sales come out next week.

  60. marquies November 25, 2009

DEATH at the stans talkin sum it aint a flop. LET BEYONCE SELL 160,000 they’ll be ready to prepare her funeral JUST DEAD!!!! Beyonce sold 5 Million B4 she ever re-released. She sold 490,000 first week. DONT COME FOR HER, JUST STAY IN YOUR LANE AND WAIT YOUR TURN LOL

WHERES RIHANNA #1 ALBUM AND SINGLE LOL
DEAD @ HER BEING THE BADDEST B**** AND STILL AINT HAVE A #1 ALBUM AND LETTING A RE-RELEASE OUT SELL HER

  61. wtf November 25, 2009

nicky, you must the one threatening sam…you are a lunatic…

  62. S*** November 25, 2009

    @ Nicky

    Shut your flying ass up.
Gaga had a #1 album, music video and single on itunes all at once. Check your facts honey.
    Ritard could NEVER.

  63. 12345 November 25, 2009

dumb rihanna fans, just stop commenting and coming to this site and your lovely friend sam the f***** that makes single ladies coreography while looking at the mirror will stop bashing her

  64. nerd November 25, 2009

I’m definitely not a big fan of Rihanna, but the album was great in my opinion. I think the whole release was totally off, she did 20/20 right before album release and people thought it was publicity stud, and she only did a couple of live performance. Also the album leak so earlier, but you know that they going to rereleased. One thing I like about Rihanna team is that they always pumping out money with several single instantly

  65. Socivol November 25, 2009

Lol everyone was riding so hard on Rihanna when GGGB was clearly a fluke. Does anyone remember her first two albums that barely made a blip on the radar? When you are not talented your lead single has to be killer and Riri messed that up this go around. Russian Roulette is a pretty good song but it wasn’t what people were expecting. We expected a club banger and got a midtempo which is the opposite of what the public wanted from her. Wait Your Turn is definitely a grower but a lot of people listened to it once and thought it was a throw away. How LA Reid let these singles come out is beyond me when she has a certified hit on her hands with Rude Boy. Same goes with s***** singles from GGGB when Breakin’ Dishes was clearly the best song on the album. Hopefully RiRi stans STFU and fall into their lane like Ciara fans had to after Marta Bus Trip flopped.

  66. Realist November 25, 2009

She has been set up to succeed by a record label that should’ve dropped her nonsinging behind when she was 16. And she undercut and copied the ENTIRE style/wardrobe/angst/tattoes of a more talented, yet lesser known artist. To say that I was merely pleased at seeing her new album being included in a McDonalds extra value meal, is a severe understatement! It’s about time that something tied to her is going to fail horribly.

  67. Nicky November 25, 2009

Debut Album Will Top 600k, Adam Lambert, Gaga, Rihanna, Shakira Also Bow

    November 25, 2009

Not since Mrs. Miller warbled “A Lover’s Concerto” on the Ed Sullivan Show have we had as unlikely a pop heroine as Susan Boyle.
And if that dates us, go tell it on Topio Gigio the little Italian mouse.

A story which began with Simon Cowell’s arched eyebrows on Britain’s Got Talent, where she made her unlikely debut singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables climaxes in a chart-topping debut for the album of the same name in the middle of the busiest retail season of the year. The album set a record in the U.K. with more than 130k sales on its first day in stores. It is on track to beat the highest first-week sales of 375,872 for a debut album set by Leona Lewis two years ago.

That’s right, folks, the team of Barnett and Boyle, as in Columbia’s fearless leader Steve, will be #1 next week with a total that right now appears more than 600k and, dare we say it, could go even higher.

That’s based on one-day sales reports from delirious retailers high on Boyle’s version of “Daydream Believer.”

The controversial gender-bending Idol runner-up Adam Lambert proves to be the real people’s choice—at least those who prefer their music a cross between Freddie Mercury and Anthony Newley—with a first-week total in the 210-230k range for his 19/RCA/RMG bow, For Your Entertainment, unfortunately, not named after the retail chain.

Interscope provocateur for all seasons Lady Gaga’s Fame Monster EP, a seven-song addition to the deluxe edition available on its own, will do 180-200k, while the new version (now merged on the charts with the original album) should do another 130-150k.

Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna, whose new album Rated R has been getting stellar reviews in the L.A. and N.Y. Times and Rolling Stone, is on line for 180-200k.

Yet another global diva, Epic’s Shakira, will bow with 80-90k of her new She Wolf album.

A couple of Cash Money/Universal Republic acts in Jay Sean and Birdman are the other new releases, both trending in the 30-35k range.

The market was up 13% vs. last week, down 16% vs. same week last year and down 13% year to date.

Now it’s time to suck down some tryptophan, curl up on the couch in a fetal position and watch some football.

  71. SG November 25, 2009

    This is FALSE.
    Absolutely, positively false.

Rihanna will actually sell more in her first week with ‘Rated R’ than she has with any previous album. ‘GGGB’ sold around the 160K mark in its debut; nothing stellar. Rihanna’s camp isn’t playing for the first week — they’re playing for the fourth and fifth month. They know sales will be blowout as her singles gain momentum. Same with Lady Gaga, who I’m sure was hoping for more with ‘The Fame Monster’. RIhanna and Lady Gaga are looking for the singles to sell the album.

SuBo and Adam Lambert are looking for album sales — they do NOT have hit singles and will not generate much after the first eight weeks of sales.

You guys have no credibility once so ever.

    This site disgusts me!

  72. SEAN2009 November 25, 2009

  78. mel November 25, 2009

I DON’T LIKE RIHANNA BUT YOUR ARTICLE IS WRONG. YOU HAVE INCORRECTLY CITED THE BILLBOARD ARTICLE — IT DOESN’T SAY RATED WILL SELL 162,000… IT SAYS THAT GGGB SOLD 162,000. IT DOESN’T GIVE A PROJECTED SALES FIGURE FOR RATED R.

SO EITHER YOU’VE TWISTED THE ARTICLE’S WORDS FOR HITS & TO RILE UP THE RIHANNA FANS OR DIDN’T READ PROPERLY.

  79. Bee November 25, 2009

LMAO@ 12345 & Nicky for calling this dude a f*****. I don’t “stan” for anybody, but it just annoys me that whoever runs this site disses everybody that isn’t Beyonce, yet posts them 50 times a day. Demand or not, it’s your f****** blog and if you don’t like that person just don’t post them. Yes, I know I don’t have to read..and I would actually come to this site more if I didn’t have to read the same damn opinion every time you post on the same artist all day long. We know how you feel so why say it again in every damn post?? You sound like a gay ass bitter broken record. Or is it because these artists didn’t invite your ass to “say they name”..that you just said f*** them im gonna talk about them in every post I do?? Why do you spend money on a site only to get talked about on your own s***?? It’s baffling to me…but do you 🙂 More power to you…but I’m just telling you right now that this site gon flop if you keep this s*** up, this formula ain’t really working. Perez already got boom boom pow’ed..you gon say the wrong s*** and get caught up by one of these celebs lmao.

  80. BLACK November 25, 2009

“It seems there a few celebs whose presence is worth a pretty penny on New Year’s Eve!

And they will be starting 2010 off right with some mayjah $$$$$$!

Princess RiRi will be collecting a royal fee of $500,000 to perform at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, which will be her first concert in the Middle East.

“She was supposed to perform back in May [in Abu Dhabi], but she cancelled in the aftermath of the assault. This is a make-up date,” said a source.

But, she not the only one raking in the dough!

Alicia Keys is getting paid $250,000 to throw a holiday concert in NYC!!

    Wowsa!

    Happy New Year!”

  87. MR.727 November 25, 2009

This goes to show you that people are sick of untalented super models! The b**** is pretty, but let’s be honest people, she has propagandize from Chris Brown whooping her ass! I feel bad about what happen, but this w**** is not talented to me! Aretha, Patti, Teena MARIE, s*** even Fantasia are way better singers than she is! In due time her music is going to fade like bleach on a red shirt!

The most important part of this post, this b**** cannot sing! So ya’ll keep praising this super model, keep falling for her pretty body and face!

I’m so f****** glad Sade is coming out with a new cd, so we can be in love with new and “real” music again, not this Barbie doll play house looking b****!!!!!

.99 cent for a cd? N**** please I can find a better cds at the got damn Dollor Store! This w**** will never get a dime of my money!

  88. MR.727 November 25, 2009

@ Lola :F*** Sandra Rose self hating black b****! She always hating on Obama a b****! She has the right to feel the way she does, but ain’t that b**** from overseas?????? I hate her site cuz she only wants people to be in her click and she won’t allow open registration, and she talks about dumb s***! So as of today I’m not longer going to her site!

  89. MR.727 November 25, 2009

Motherfuck Chris Brown! He is a big ass dummy! All he can do is dance like a got damn m***** on a tree branch! B**** don’t you know that when he hit that girl he had f***** up! Let’s be real, people that support him are either simple minded muthafuckas , or lack any understanding of what talent is . This light bright son of a b****! It makes me sick to my core to see people me bamboozled by these computer game singin ass wannabes! I’m tired of him trying to ride on MJ s***! See when you young like he is, you really need to understand the business, get educated oh how to market yourself, find time to really make music that you will like as well as your fans, instead of trying to put a carpet over a hole in the floor, knowing you going to fall through the b**** if you step wrong! Riri is getting played out, your looks only carry you far, it only sustains you for so long until people snap out the fog of deception and realize that your talent is manufactured an generic! Wake up people, wake the f*** up! Todays R&B is like the s**** trade! Yes sir master I’lls shuck and jive to make ya money, just makes sho my family eats, and takens cares of!!!!!!!!! I want these people to be successful, have prosperity, but they are selling there souls for a dollar that you can’t take with you when you dead and gone! When both there careers slipping they better take the m***** ass to school get a degree, and have a back up plan, cuz with they way things are going, this pop is coming to a close and real music is going to dominate again! Hide, watch and see!!!

  90. Likkle Me November 25, 2009

If her album is doin well in other countries…its prob cuz ppl are buyin it for $3.99 … and $0.99 with the free $3 m** thing…If i had to skip a Mc Donalds value meal to get a whole album, i’d prob get it too…if i had to trade bus fare to buy a whole album, i’d prob get it too…if i had to gather up some change from the fountain at the mall to get a whole album, i’d prob get it too… THAT ALBUM BETTER BE DOING WELL IF ITS SELLING THAT CHEAP!!!

  91. rightround November 25, 2009

Hopefully RiRi stans STFU and fall into their lane like Ciara fans had to after Marta Bus Trip flopped.

^^^ pfffft ROFL!!! I’m a huge Ciara fan but that was just funnyyy! btw, what’s a Marta Bus Trip? you mean ‘fantasy ride’?

Itunes is giving rihanna stans a heart attack lol. they are posting every country possible.. oh well Gaga is #1! I don’t think 163k is flop tho because i was expecting her to do way worse..BUT she did have ALOT of high-profile promo.

  92. Darrius November 25, 2009

I like how you are always trying to get on Rihanna. You fail to realize that Beyonce had so many re releases to her album I Am, When it 1st came out there were two versions then there were DVDs now shes releasing one with all the videos. Don’t come at one singer for doing something when they all do

  93. marquies November 25, 2009

FALSE just b/c she released live dvd’s and cds. NONE of them contribute to I Am…Sasha Fierce sales. They not counted together the only thing that is getting counted together are the I Am… Sasha Fierce (Regular) and Delux Edition but they were both released on the same day.

She just re-released the album this week but she sold 5 million b4 the album got re-released

  94. S*** November 25, 2009

    @ NICKI

First of all when you have a re-release debut higher than a official release = FLOP.

  95. SEAN November 25, 2009

Yeah in fairness Sam, that post was funny and your not wrong with all the reissues and different editions! But the lady you love Beyoncé did the exact same thing! Actually, what is the bloody deal with every artist releasing albums in several different editions, with different tracklistings, and different singles, and bonus tracks in certain regions or if you buy them in a certain shop! Drives me completely mad!

Why can’t artists just release an album where its the same in every country!

  96. ALEX November 25, 2009

162,000 copies is flopping? Had this been Kelly Rowland it wouldve looked something like this “KELLY ROWLAND SET TO SLAAYYYYYY THE COMPETETION”

    MR.727

You sound like the prime dumbass. Self hating racist twit. What the hell does Chris Brown or him being being light has to do with this bs. He is not expected to out sell her and they are on different labels, different genres and not even in the same category male vs female. If she sinks that’s on her ass.

Chris Brown helped her damn career if anything …that ass whooping torpedoed Princess Ri into orbit. (Quiet as it was kept her star was fading). She was given all the tools to go forward and shine. Instead of taking the high road she waited until a few weeks before dropping her album and poured on the victim status. Her interviews that followed about booze, big dongs, and plenty of s** for Christmas, isn’t putting her in the best light as role model in the soccer moms eyes. Neither is the liner notes of her cd.

Her stans can blame everyone and the moon…it’s still on her. She has no talent…period. She’s an over-hyped pretty face. And whether Chris Brown goes to school or not he’s till richer than everyone on this board including myself, so I wouldn’t worry too much about him either.

  105. Tracie November 25, 2009

Her album will do just fine….she is the “victim” after all. She will get plenty sympathy sales. Considering how she’s sold her soul to protect her “empire” lol I am sure the powers that be will help her sell that CD. Also by them slashing it to .99 its bound to sell alot. Even if you don’t like her you might check it out for .99 cents right? So….she’ll be fine…..Chris will be fine….we will be fine….it’s all good. While we’re here talking about Chris and Rihanna guess what THEY are out there getting that paper. Are you getting that paper? Log off and find something to do….lol…buh bye.

  106. BLACK November 25, 2009

Look EVERYBODY CAN ARGUE ABOUT RIHANNA AND BEYONCE, WHO PUT OUT RERELEASE AND ISH, BUT ALL THAT MATTERS IS

RIHANNA IS FLOPPING, MAYBE SOME OF U FANS ON HERE NEED TO STOP TRYING TO FIGHT WITH BEYONCE STANS AND

GO AND BUY ATLEAST 2 Of HER ALBUMS. cause the chick is flopping, NO MOVE THE F*** ON!!!

  107. IH8SAM&TRENT November 25, 2009

that lady gaga album.. is a re-release in disguise!!

they are clearly trying to sugercoat the fact, that its a re-release..
a way to throw out new singles while the buzz is still sound, without waiting to do a completely new album. its too obvious

    and 8-track album?

oh please..if it was a brand new album?.. why the hell does it have to be sold with the first one attatched… what a load of bull.. im not buyin the ” i want my fans who havent got the first album, to be able to afford them both 2 in 1″-s***.. bull bull bull..
its a re-release in disguise.. simple as.

  108. IH8SAM&TRENT November 25, 2009

    some extra proof

“Billboard 200 chart manager Keith Caulfield”

“Billboard has many guidelines about the merging of so-called special edition albums with their original parent albums. Generally speaking, two or more versions of an album will not be merged if the title of the special edition version is substantially different from the original. For Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame’ and ‘The Fame Monster,’ we feel that the change was in line with what we’ve allowed in the past (a la Rihanna’s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ and ‘Good Girl Gone Bad Reloaded’).

“Additionally, for our chart purposes, there is no limit as to how many audio tracks or songs can be added to an original album, as long as the additional audio content does not extend beyond one additional CD (or digital equivalent) and the content of the standard edition remains intact.

“Thus, the reissue of Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame’ in a deluxe version (‘The Fame Monster’) with additional songs will have its sales combined with the original ‘Fame’ album. The same goes for the ‘Platinum Edition’ of Taylor Swift’s ‘Fearless’.”

  109. ThatAppleJuice November 25, 2009

Oh well. Bye b****! It was fun while it lasted.

Hop on your umbrella and fly away.

  110. Paybackamonster November 25, 2009

@Mr.727 What does Chris Brown have to with this Rihanna’s album sell… Light bright… wow, I guess he can’t help the color of his skin tone, no more than you can. He’s not riding on MJ either, I do recall in an interview that when asked by MJ who was his favorite singer or something to that, he stated, Chris Brown and Justin Timberlake. Also I heard MJ speak of the people who influnced him, Jackie Wilson, James Brwon etc, you remember him saying how he watched them dance… and perfected the moonwalk after seeing JB do it. You nor I know his $$ situationbut… people magazine last year did say that he grossed in 2008, $18.5 million in record sales and performing, that did not inclued his film work, Forbes magazine has stated that he is worth between $35- $40 million. He’s a 20 year old kid( still a kid when your not legally able to drink or be in a bar), that has a bright future in r&b, pop, writing and acting. ( The End)

Rihanna people have pulled everything they possibly can to sell this cd, waiting a week before the cd was to drop to go on 20/20, one of the Glamour Magazine women of the year, AMA performance( that was horrible), David Letterman, Bet special on Wednesday singing her hits, GMA and People Magazine gave it rating of 4 stars… yet all of the many performances and interviews aren’t helping the sells. Rihanna’s true talent isn’t singing, I feel that maybe she should be a model or fashion icon , that is what she truly good at!

  111. motor3 November 25, 2009

i’m getting sick of this site, once again if its not by beyonce it isn’t good, bored now……….YAWN!! And this album is so good pitch black music at its best

  112. MG November 25, 2009

IF YOU READ THE BILLBOARD ARTICLE IT SAY RATED R IS EXPECTED TO SELL THE SAME AS GGGB IN IT’S 1ST WEEK.

  113. MG November 25, 2009

    RIHANNA STANS LISTEN

BEYONCE AIN’T FLOPPING SO SHE CAN RE-RELEASE WHATEVER THE HELL SHE WANTS!

  114. cman2007 November 25, 2009

I LOVE RIHANNA, AND YES THIS ALBUM IS FAR OUT DIFFERENT FROM GGGB. BUT PEOPLE SERIOUSLY CANT BE HAPPY. JUST LIKE WHAT HAPPEENED TO KELLY CLARKSON. ITS LIKE PEOPLE SIT THERE N B**** HOW THE ARTIST IS FAKE, AND DOESNT HAVE A PERSONALITY AND AS SOON AS THEY TAKE CONTROL OF THERE PROJECT PEOPLE LIKE YOU SAYIN ITS WHACK? 1ST OFF RIHANNA HAS NEVER DEBUT AT #1, SO AS TO HER NOT DEBUTING AT THE TOP SPOT WHO CARES, GGGB DIDNT EITHER AND LOOK WHAT BECAME OF IT? SELLING 6MILLION WW. AND AS TO THE COMMENT ABOUT RE RELEASING, UMM BEYONCE RE RELEASED HER FAR FROM GOOD PIECE OF CRAP ALBUM B’DAY HOW MANY TIMES? YET THE MIN. RIHANNA DID IT PEOPLE WERE ALL UP ON HER CASE. THE FACT IS RIHANNA DOESNT NEED TO B NUMBER 1, THE B**** IS BAD, AND SHE AINT GOING NO WHERE.

  115. DOM November 25, 2009

DNT HATE ON BEYONCE. SHE MAY RELEASE 1000 SINGLES, BUT SHES STILL THE CLEVER B****, PEOPLE BE BUYING BOTH HER SINGLES EVEN THOUGH THEY’VE BOUGHT HER ALBUMS AND ALL THE SONGS ARE ON IT.

RIHANNA HAS ABOUT 10 SONGS, FOR 99 Cents, AND FOLKS STILL DNT WANNA BUY IT! LOOOOL. BEYONCE IS IN ANOTHER LEAGUE.

RATED R’ IS FLOPPING HARDER THAN AN IMPOTENT E*******

  116. Barbie November 25, 2009

First of all Beyonce never re- released her album until a few days ago. Her album has sold over 5.4 million coipes worldwide and sales are still going up. She has sold 15 million singles alone off this album.

Rihanna didn’t have a platform to stand on when GGGB was release so the first week numbers I can understand. But with this album Rated-R she does have a platform to stand on from the success of GGGB. She has a name for herself. Rihanna had all this hype around her from Def Jam “The Wait is OVA”, RITURN of Rihanna etc She was on ABC “Rihanna is going to tell what happen” Rihanna GMA,AMA video came on ABC. So to come out with first week sales like this after all that hype that Def Jam put behind her and you stans talking about Rihanna is about to kill the charts etc blah blah blah. And now this chick that shuts it down as you stans say *side eye* can’t even go gold in the first week . Her album underperformed badly I know Def Jam didn’t see this coming even you stans/fans didn’t see it coming. You stans need to realize Rihanna is not a Powerhouse Artist as Beyonce and Britney Spears.

Also you stans keep saying Rihanna is doing something new with this album that artist are not doing humm I’m sorry but Rated -R is a Stripped (Christina Aguilera album) reject.

Rated – R has underperformed badly.

  117. Mr.727 November 25, 2009

Wait til I get back to my sister, I’m letting you b****** have it!

  118. destra November 25, 2009

good girl gone bad sold because lil white kids liked that kind of gumbo pop…they dont like singing about grenades and guns…..hence the reason why Rated Ridiculous will FLOP!

lady gaga is a real artiste – despite whatever marketing strategies and image campaigns she has, her talent is SOLID.

Rihanna is FAKE and people dont genuinely like her….we liked the ella ella ella a a a
    not this s*** .

  119. paula daniel November 25, 2009

how much tits and ass cheeks does a woman have to expose in order to sell a record? Is the music industry that hard up that a female cant make it without selling her body?

Rihanna obviously is doing the s**-sells bit and its sad. If she really had this “talent” that her fans claim she has then she wouldnt need to expose herself the way she does.

I hope her s*** flops….that arrogant c*** needs to be taken down a notch

  120. Nicky November 25, 2009

This is exactly why Black people will forever be in the plight we’re in. Whites look at us tear each other down……and LAUGH. Ive seen it before.

Yall display yourselves as ignorant n****** who pit black women against each other. Rihanna and Beyonce support each other and dont give a f*** about yall.

Plain and simple. Youre pathetic and will forever be. Including the sitemaster Sam.

  121. Linda Moore November 25, 2009

WHO CARES, I’m a Rihanna and Lady Gaga. I brought both albums and I personally like them. It’s Susan’s week period. Rihanna, Lady GaGa and Adam Lambert will probadly sell 200- 250k a piece. Rihanna and Lady GaGa are singles artist they don’t push large album numbers period because if that was so Lady GaGa ‘s The Fame would be at like 3 million or more just in United States or more. Rihanna put out a bunch of records and in the United States GGGB pushed 2.5 Million while her singles sold 9 Million so this goes proves my point check it out on billboard.

    Susan B
    Lady GaGa
    Adam Lambert
    Rihanna

  122. Mr.727 November 25, 2009

Nicky shut the f*** up! You a black dumb b**** with no class! I know I talk my s*** on this site, but got damn it I keep it real and I state the truth f*** the b*******! A N***** is an ignorant person! So I guess that is what you are, junkie black b****!

  123. Mr.727 November 25, 2009

Tappin on the mic! (Sound feedback)! To the two b****** that tried to cal me out about Chris Brown! I’m not going to make this s*** a essay cuz I gots to clean and cook for Thanksgiving! First of f*** both of you stupid b******, cuz what I was saying is , if he hasn’t hit that girl he would not be f***** up in the situation he is in now! 2: if you whores would stop sucking his d***, and plug it out you rabbit ass brain then you would have the clarity to the big picture! I’m not going to apologize for not supporting a f****** women beater, I know there as been many men that have beaten the s*** out of these significant other, but this s*** of accepting these dumb f**** has to stop! B****** like you are the reason why women everyday across a America and the World get f***** up! Cuz you let some d*** and catching a n** dictate if you want to be with a man! Stupid ass b******! I understand that past cannot not be undone, Up I’m not to sit here and act like that s*** is cool with me! I won’t support him point blank!

Happy F****** Thanksgiving you bossa nova looking b******!

  124. Hit that Bottom November 25, 2009

I’ve spent some time with Rated R and I’m not moved – neither was Rihanna. If anything, this album’s message sounds dated, trite and contrived.

A woman was scorned and abused and responds to such adversity with an eye for an eye. This message, esp. coming from Rihanna, seems as inauthentic as her 20/20 interview.

Like Rihanna, I’m not feeling the message, I’m not feeling the beats and I’m not feeling the lyrics. These songs were spoon-fed to her by writers and producers who hoped to take a tragic ordeal to commercially successful heights, but a lot is lost in translation.

If this album were dropped a couple months after her Brown ordeal it would have been far more palatable.

  125. Brenda88 November 26, 2009

Great…I think she sucks, so I hope this is the beginning of the end of her career. She can’t sing, can’t dance, doesn’t write or compose her own music…Man, 99 cents…really? That is a true joke. This is what I’m thankful for this Thanksgiving.

  126. 12345 November 26, 2009

    @ tracie
please, its not the prices that will make people buy it, if you like her, you like her and buy it, if you dont like her, you will expect that she flops and you wont buy it, so stfu with that conversation
    damn americans are dumb

  127. AWOLLUVA November 26, 2009

How exactly are they able to predict how much an artist will sell in the first week? I’ve always wondered about that. Either way, I’m not expecting anything until next week. We’ll know FOR SURE what the numbers are then, none of this guessing game b*******…

  128. AWOLLUVA November 26, 2009

@DESTRA, Lady Gaga is NOT a real artist, let’s make that crystal clear! Lady Gaga is nothing more than some chick (although that can be disputed) that walks around like she came from outer space and dresses like a god damn circus freak to get attention.

    Can this chickenhead sing? No!

Can this chickenhead dance? Absolutely not!

I’ve said this numerous times (on this blog and off this blog), the b**** is no more than the White Rihanna! Period! The only thing Gaga’s got over Rihanna is the songwriting, and even THEN she’s not that good at that. Do you hear her lyrics? Does any of the s*** she writes make you think? Make you feel? Or is it just more of the generic pop b******* we hear in todays music, coming from somebody who writes for the likes of artists such as Britney Spears??

Anybody who thinks Gaga is a “real artist” can go choke on a d***. Hell, HER d***. I don’t care, but it sickens me when people bash R****** for being wack and fake and generic, only to bring up that he/she’s name as though it’s any better. Please! They BOTH suck, period. And something tells me they’re both gonna flop this time around, so it’s all good.

  129. LALA November 26, 2009

  130. Carl November 26, 2009

‘we’ll probably be subject to 300 singles and 25 re-releases (including the Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Ultra Premium Deluxe, Spanish, Hebrew and Japanese versions…and of course the Super-Super Uber Ultra Premium Deluxe edition which comes with a DVD).’
LOL X 1000 tht is funny

  131. Dustbin Terrier November 26, 2009

    @AWOLLUVA

clearly YOU dont have an ear for music or you’re just a plain hater. You should actually Listen to lady gaga sing. If you can deny that she has a great voice then you’re tone deaf. She may not be a Whitney or a Mariah but she certainly Sings better than that s***-hound Rihanna

I’m actually curious to know who you would deem a “good artiste”.
Hell your collection probably consists of Milli Vanilli, Hanson, Britney Spears and Rihanna
Retreat to whatever rock your b****-ass crawled out from under.

you’re probably the F***** who f***** gaga and started the rumours about her d***. Jealous YOU cant suck it anymore?
Come to f*** off this site. Check out perezhilton.com or some other q**** site where your kind is welcomed.

  132. MR.727 November 26, 2009

This is how the number game goes! The artist only get a curtain percentage, they they have to do promos to pay back the label for them album promotion. When Alicia came out with As I am in 2007 that b**** gross 600-700k!! If this b**** can push those numbers, then she a bad b****, but into today’s industry 60-200k is acceptable! I can’t wait to Sade cd come out, forget the numbers, it is all about the music! We need music to unite us as people, not divide!

Be blessed Grape fam, Happy Thanksgiving!

  133. S*** November 26, 2009

    @ Nicky

B**** check your f***** facts again.
The Fame monster Deluxe Edition will be added to the sales of The Fame which is a re-release while The Fame Monster with the 8 tracks is a solo album. Non the less both may surpass Ritard in the upcoming week.
    Stay mad.

  134. 12345 November 26, 2009

    @Dustbin Terrier
I think That Grape Juice is much more queerer then Perez Hilton, rofl, brainless gays talking about who’s the best of the gay queens (lady gaga, beyonce and rihanna) and the blogger went to a beyonce concert and got all excited with that ‘say my name’ thing so yeah, very gay

Lady Gaga has style, she can sing, she plays the keys, but I would prefer that someone would write the lyrics for her, I prefer that then listening to her lyrics, they are awfull but I like her, she has talent, but dont come with that conversation about the lyrics because it will make you look like a fool

  135. ? November 26, 2009

    @ 12345

Her lyrics are the reason why people like her. SHM

  136. Grape Juice Rayne November 26, 2009

    How did i know?

  137. 12345 November 26, 2009

    @ ?
Oh really? Because of her lyrics? Her lyrics have no meaning and she always writes about stupid things like “disco sticks” like are you serious? If that is the reason that people like her, now there is another proof that the music industry is dead, Lady Gaga has so many things to like and you like her lyrics that are the worst thing about her? And I am the ignorant one?ROFL

And I didnt say I dont like q*****, I said that the q***** are always creating wars between the singers and guess what? Childish people do that

You are the ignorant f***** with that stupid post, go take your pills

  138. Dustbin Terrier November 26, 2009

    @12345

hunny i never mentioned anything about Gaga’s lyrics. I was speaking with tone-deaf AWOLLUVA who said that Gaga cant sing. I agree with you that she writes a bunch of crap BUT she has a lovely voice.

You should read properly before you start commenting on other people’s posts because it will make YOU look like a fool.

  139. Beauty November 26, 2009

Rihanna’s Amazon discounted offering may not actually be counted as an actual sale. If her CD, “Rated R”, was sold by Amazon previously for more than $8, then her discounted offering of $3.99 will NOT be counted in the Soundscan numbers. If Amazon did sell it for more than $8, then this holiday offering must be strictly promotion since the sales from the promotion won’t count. Here’s what Soundscan has to say about this protocol:

“SoundScan does not count any product that is given away or sold at a substantial discount. Here is their exact definition,”According to Soundscan policies, a product can not be sold for less than 50% of the retail list price. As long as the pricing falls within that criteria, the sales would be eligible to process.” So for a single or album to count as a sale, you will need to make sure you do not discount or re-price below 50% of the original sales price. This sales price is based on the first sale reported to SoundScan. ”

Well, I guess numbers don’t lie…………………………….I still like Rockstar101 though, that has to count for something, right????

Oh, well better luck next time. Cause they were shoving her down our throats, and then that horrible AMA performance. She really had no chance of debuting @ #1 🙁

I love GaGa, she is so awesome. Fame Monster is amazing 🙂

  142. Aaron Wycklendt November 27, 2009

Rihanna doesnt have to worry. I am on Riahnna side. Im loving her new look and sound, I think her album sales are average, (its not amazing) but why would judge that from the first week. I didn’t by her last album until it came out with its reloaded version. Odds are she will rock her sales on black friday. So im expecting you to apologize when her sales start rockin’. And unless you are a hard core fan, honestly, are you buying a cd the first week it comes out?
    She will be alright
    ;D
I dunno why, but im going to get flack on this, but she has something similar to Aaliyah.. I dunno what it is tho..

  143. stx November 27, 2009

@the person saying that rihanna’s first two albums barely made a blip, That is a lie. Her first albums were successful and set her up to have the most successful album which was GGGB . She has shown that she is growing as an artist from her first to her fourth album. Her first music of the Sun, debut in the top ten, and garnered her 1st top ten hit. Pon de replay. A girl like me debut in the top 5 and went platinum with 3 top ten hits. SOS, Unfaithful, and break it off with Sean paul. You all need to stop lying and research the facts before posting hateful comments based on something you just think up in your head. In my opinion, this album has more substance, and songs, that I can relate too. I like the mix that was on there. I didn’t buy GGGB. But I bought Rated R, because i liked the songs I heard, and think its a pretty good album over all. When its all said and done. watch how many hits will come off of Rated R, you all will be so surprised. Mark my words.

  144. lool November 27, 2009

  146. Justice November 27, 2009

Her downfall became the naked photos and numerous nipple slips. After the 20/20 interview she presented herself as a role model but this is not role model behavior. Her explanation is she is 21 not 17. Just because you are 21 does not mean you should dress like and demean yourself as a s*** would. As she said about Chris Brown, she should take this as a learning experience.

  147. connor November 27, 2009

she’s not releasing any deluxes what so ever. shame

  148. Juicy November 27, 2009

I can’t stand Rihanna…she is everywhere, and she expects me to feel sorry for her and buy her CD? Sorry, but I’m not wasting my money on a talentless woman who can’t sing, or dance.

On the other hand, I have already pre-ordered Chris Brown’s deluxe CD, and will also purchase his Grafitti CD at BestBuy on Dec.8th. At least the boy can SING, and dance, and is very entertaining with live performances. She threw Chris under the bus to sale records, while the boy has done what he could to repent for his mistake. I believe in the end, talent will win.

  149. vernitta byrd November 28, 2009

plz i cant stand rihanna…i feel like she did all that sympathy and pathetic s*** to sell albums….and that guy nicky they way he loves rihanna youd think they wre f***** or something, that m*********** all on her nuts….and its true she cant sing…i heard im so hard and it does have a nice ring to it but still its the principle of the thing….and im going to boycott this album just because shes a fake ass liar!!!!! but yea i will be there to get chris brown cd bright and and early…..awwww poor rihanna ….smh…sad sad sad……but oh welll that b**** still got money so f*** her lying ass…..shes evil evil i tell you!!!!!!!

  150. michelle November 28, 2009

@ Aaron you are a FOOL. RHi is nothing like Aaliyah especially in her current form. When Rhi first arrived she was sweet or seemed so like Aaliyah but not NOW. Aaliyah voice is and was pleasing to the ear and she could perform and dance live. NOTHING like Rhianna. THe only thing they have in common is being pretty. ALso, Aaliyah was constantly trying to improve her voice with each album. Can’t say the same about Rhianna. So, YOU are apparently delusional or missing Aaliyah.

  151. AWOLLUVA November 28, 2009

@Dustbin Terrier, umm…I’m a girl, not a “f*****” as you so call them, and FYI; homophobia does not make you sound “hard” at all, dear. It makes you look weak and ignorant, and I’m not buying the act. If YOU don’t like “f******”, then maybe YOU should f*** off to another site, as I’m pretty sure a large majority of those who visit this blog are (as you put it) F******.

Yeah, doesn’t sound so cute when somebody else says it, does it? 😉

My musical tastes consists of acts such as Michael, Janet, Madonna (sorta), Whitney, Mariah (sorta), Prince, Craig David, TLC, Salt n’ Pepa, Lil’ Kim (the old Kim, anyway), Tupac, LL, Frank Sinatra, U2, Billy Joel, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, and f*** it, other artists (I mean I’m not gonna list my whole god damn playlist) who actually have sustainability and talent; REAL artists who worked hard to create the legacy and impact they made within the music industry.

Lady Gag is NOT part of the list of aforementioned artists, nor will this little s*** EVER be if she keeps doing what she’s doing. As far as I’m concerned, my ear for music is diverse and undiscriminating. However I will NOT stand for fakery and b*******, smoke and mirrors, and fashion BEFORE music. And Gaga is ALL of the above, as is Rihanna (trust me, I can’t stand that goat b**** either, they’re both equally hideous in my eyes.)

Am I a little hard on Gaga’s vocals? Sure I am, and I’m fully willing to admit that! Britney Spears is somebody I can take with a grain of salt…Blackout was an amazing album and what not. However I will admit that Gaga does have a better voice than Britney, but how am I truly supposed to focus on Gaga’s vocals when the b**** is dressed like she’s about to evaporate me with a space laser?

Either way, Gaga is a gimmick to those of us who are smart enough to see past the foolishness. Until she focuses more on her music and less on looking like a 2050’s hooker, people will only continue to see her as such.

As far as the rumors of her having a d***, I certainly didn’t start that. I think it’s because she’s generally ugly and kinda looks like a man. Truth hurts, but it is what it is.

  152. Venus November 28, 2009

I’m not surprised the album didn’t sale as much the first week. The promotion was handled terribly; it seemed rushed.Three singles were released back to back to back practically all in the same month. Nevertheless i still think this album will eventually sale alot more once the “Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Ultra Premium Deluxe, Spanish, Hebrew and Japanese versions…and of course the Super-Super Uber Ultra Premium Deluxe edition which comes with a DVD” are released. LMAO

  153. imtheartis November 29, 2009

A Damn Shame, Don’t get me wrong I’m a big Rihanna fan but 160k is a flop for Rihanna here’s why. The album was promoted properly, She was all over tv talking about Chris Brown incident, and she did two music videos. Now 160k is really good for some artists in this day and time. But this is the same that GGGB sold in 2007. Which shows 0 improvement in sales. Can we blame the record label or her? I would say both is responsible because she was trying to change her image too much and be too far to the left for the shock value. The label doesnt give people a chance to miss Rihanna. But overall it is too early to say the album is going to be a flop because she can continue to promote. But the first week sales is a flop for Rihanna.

  154. mido November 30, 2009

well i just wanna say that Rated R is good but due to bad promotions of the album rihanna flops hopefully and i doubt she enters the billboard 200 at #4 well this bad promo happened back in 2007 with JLO on her album brave well … i felt sorry for rihanna

  155. nt November 30, 2009

Good, now hopefully covergirl will drop her as a spokesperson. The interview she did with Diane Sawyer was in bad taste and all the tattoos, naked internet postings etc is a little too much for little Suzie, Emma and Tammy Smiths of the world—craziness only works the likes of Britney Spears.

  156. JC November 30, 2009

Okay so I’m not understanding all of the hating. Let’s take a little flash back here… “Good Girl Gone Bad debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 168,000 units in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan.[58][59] The following week, the album dropped to number seven selling 81,000 copies.[60] ” and we all know that album was no “flop”, so just because “Rated-R” isn’t hasn’t already sold over 400,000 copies after only being out for seven days, by no means certifies it as a “flop”. I personally am not a HUGE Rihanna fan ( I lean more toward “Miss Jackson if you nasty”), but I did go to Best Buy and purchased “Rated-R”. I applaud Rihanna for this album. Artistically it’s an amazing album from start to finish. I’ve listened to it on repeat since I bought it. “Russian Roulette” is a work of art, comparing dating to a game of russian roulette is masterful because it is so true! I don’t think that “Wait Your Turn” or “Hard” should have been released as singles, especially this early on., but this album is filled with potential HIT songs like “Rock Star 101”, which is a HOT HOT HOT song, “Firebomb” is incredible and a sure fire radio friendly hit, though it is a vast departure from what we are “used to” hearing from Rihanna, which shows her growth as an artist. “Cold Case Love” is gorgeous revealing song. “Photographs” is incredible, and of course the already popular “Rude Boy” is incredibly catchy and defnite to be hit as well. So I’m sure this album, though it may lack in opening week sales, will display longevity as the hits roll out. Let’s keep in mind that GGGB was released in May of 2007, yet the hits from that album spanned almost two full years later…I know people still were loving “Rehab” earlier this year in 2009. Back to Rated -R, I love how she poured her emotions into this album, instead of coming out with GGGB part 2 she essentially created her own “Velvet Rope” (BTW Velvet Rope was Janet Jackson’s most critically acclaimed album to date, in which she dealt with depression and was going though hard emotional times). “Rated-R” is as she said a peek into her actual personality. She said that she felt that her fans new the image of Rihanna, but didn’t actually know who she is, what she stands for, how she thinks etc. Could it be that we all thought her to be bumble gum and sugar sweet when she is actually not as sweet as we thought??? (kind of like how America all thought Whitney Houston was a goody two shows, and she has NEVER been…LOVES Whitney though). The fact is that if this album doesn’t sell as projected, it’s not due to Rihanna “sucking” because I must say she definitely does not, but due to the fact that “Rated-R” is not as commercial. People are generally vapid and prefer glitter, glam, a slammin beat, and lot’s of dancing over true artistry. Comparing “Russian Roulette” to Britney Spears’s “3” is the perfect example of this. I venture to say that Rihanna probably doesn’t expect the same appeal that GGGB had, but she had to VENT. Which is what a true artist does…using their real life situations as inspiration and putting it into their work. For Rihanna to be 21 yrs old, I applaud her for this…”THAT RIHANNA REIGN JUST WON”T LET UP!”

  157. Anne November 30, 2009

Rihanna is not a great vocalist, that’s why only commercial bubble gum pop songs work for her. GGGB may have started slow and picked up later but that was due to the fact that there were releases of several hits that lead to surges in sales. Since she decided to go in a different direction, I’m not sure that ‘Rated R’ is equipped with comparable hits to avoid the flop that it appears to be headed for. Rihanna is much more popular and established as an artist than she was during the first week of GGGB and the promotion for the new album has been thick. I think the low first week sales are a reflection of an overall rejection of the new direction or sound of her music. So don’t hold your breath waiting for ‘Rated R’ to pick up like GGGB did, because it just might not happen.

  158. JC December 1, 2009

Okay so RIhanna is not an exceptional vocalist. People like the sound of her voice, the way she pronouces and enunciates words and phrases (though her accent probably has a lot to do with that), and the songs she releases are simply catchy. History proves that all artists don’t have to have perfect vocals…the music industry is filled with them. So many artists are “lemmings” so to speak. It’s refreshing to see a musician so young do daring things, dealing with emotional stress in her work, testing the boundaries, and breaking the cookie cutter image that we love to paint of young artists, while knowing her limitations. Sometimes music is not all about the album sales. I love music of ALL kinds, spanning from jazz, blues, RnB, Pop, Rock, Punk, Dance, Folk, etc. Music to fit different moods. Honestly most of the BEST albums are not best sellers…and these days….let’s get real. It doesn’t take a lot to please the masses. The recipe is once an artist like Rihanna is popular, the simple recipe to maintain that popularity is to make songs with a catchy hook and put a dance beat behind it. Rihanna could have created Good Girl Gone Bad part 2, and debuted with sales of 400,000 +. She instead chose to take a risk creatively and it shows her growth as an artist…It’s music…entertainment…Kelly Clarkson took a risk with “My December”. The album was her lowest selling album, but it was her most artistic! Princess RiRi will do just fine. If her album doesn’t sale, then she’ll simply make a more light hearted album the next time around and radio will blast every single, as long as it fits the pop formula that is preferred and expected from her. For now though, I’m personally loving the deeper, more artistically darker stage that she is in now. It’s needed when everything out right now seems so generic.

I’m not a Rihanna hater but lets state the facts.

    1. The whole world was feeling sorry for her
    2. Her album on black friday was less the $5 usually even if you don’t really like her music for below $5 anyone would buy it
So yes 181,000 sales in the first week is good but for all the exposure she was getting it should have been more. And this is off topic but who is Susan Boyle and what is so good about her she sold more then 500,000 copies!!!! But back on topic for a while I have been reading comments and it seemed all the hate was on Breezy and all the love was on Rihanna. But now since her album has came out I see more Rihanna haters everywhere and everyone is just waiting for Breezy and his greatness. Isn’t that strange lol. But I agree the good girl is totally bad and I don’t like it I liked the old Rihanna. It was nice when she was a little edgy but now its like she is completely off the edge and she wants to be such a good role model but it isn’t working. And none of this is because of what happened in Feburary at all she proved she was strong from that and I liked it but then her music and image it took a total turn for the worst. And right now I am a Breezy fan and I kinda hate to say it because what he did was so wrong but he is looking so much better then Rihanna and his image is clearing up a little. I knew it was gonna be another MIke Tyson thing I knew this problem could be easily fixed. But with Ne-Yo and some of the best producers on board for her album she could have done better its not bad at all its great but with all of the sympathy I expected more.

All the Rihanna fans who are “disappointed” or “disgusted” by this and all the negativity that Rihanna gets here should go to a Rihanna fan forum and congregate there. This person is expressing their view (very well if I may add) and they have the right to do so. If you, as a fan of Rihanna, does not like it…LEAVE!

Hope Chris Brown sells more. Can’t condone what he did, but he’s great for entertainment and waaaay better at this music game than Riri. Everyone should stop hating on him for a mistake he made in his PERSONAL life. It has nothing to do with his PROFESSIONAL music career. Just focus on the music and entertainment, like MJ. Don’t focus on the weirdness or all the child molestation allegations. It’s just GOOD MUSIC!

Rated R” sold this week 209,000 copies worldwide, which means that the album sold more than 1 million (1,013,000) copies in just 5 weeks. It is the fastest album ever by Rihanna to reach 1 million copies sold!
