Despite earlier reports that Ciara’s ‘Basic Instinct’ LP had been pushed back to September, news has now surfaced that the record will not arrive in stores until October 5th. This marks the 3rd time that the release date of the album, which is being primarily handled by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, has been rescheduled with the 1st being a change from August 24th to August 17th. {Source}
What in the name of Prince, Janet and Mariah Carey is going on with Ciara’s team? The previous changes to the album’s release date were understandable but now it seems that they do not have a proper handle on this project. With the substantial airplay that ‘Ride’ is receiving and the buzz surrounding ‘Gimme That’ there is no apparent reason why this record should not hit stores in September.
All of these changes do not bode well to boost the confidence of consumers regarding the quality of the album, especially since Ciara’s last project, ‘Fantasy Ride’, remained stagnant on the shelves. Get it together people!

I love Ciara, but this is not the business!
If she had done the promo she keeps saying she is going to start doing, then there would be no need to push back the album.
Us fans are doing our best to support “Ride” and now “Gimme Dat” (I’ve requested so much on radio!) but it seems all we get is disappointment in return.

In a way I can understand the push back because she has alot planned in very little time but back to October is crazy! This has been a on going issue since she first came out her album dates always change and it’s like she fights the label every step of the way…Goodies was pushed foward then back, Evolution was pushed back, Fantasy Ride was pushed back(multiple times), now Basic Instinct.
It would be funny if her and Beyonce do come out around the same time or if they actually did come out the same exact day that would be ultimate promo…Why?…because it would be like Kanye vs. 50 part 2 the top of young female presences in the R&B/Pop world clashes everyone would make a big deal about who’s team Beyonce whose team Ciara and both of there album sales would increase. WTF is up with Ciara and her team. This was the same B.S Fantasy Ride was going through. Go Girl came out floped then they push the album to April and Go Girl became a buzz/promo single. So what now… Ride is going to be a buzz/promo single too that wont even be featured on the album once the album do come out. 2nd its clearly showing that Ciara does not want to flop but lets be real if the album was going to come out on aug 17th like it was, it still would have floped. Ppl is not crazy about Ciara like they used too and her pushing back dates is not doing nothing but making the situation worst. I think it is good they pushed it back because she has done VERY LITTLE in promotion. Honestly, what the fuck is she waiting for? She needs to get on tv and radio shows and start promoting her shit. This CD is not going to sell itself! However, October is way too far! A September release would be ideal. Now she is going to have to compete with so many A-list stars including Kanye and TI. I’m a fan, but I’m honestly losing hope. Whether we like it or not, this is her LAST shot. Her fan base has significantly diminished since “Goodies.” She needs to deliver if she wants to be up there with Rihanna and Beyonce again!

@MINAJ, None of the other artists you named are as vulnerable as Ciara (coming off of a previous flopped album w/the risk of two flops in a row). One or two date changes are no biggie, but a push back followed by a push-up then two more push backs is getting ridiculous. I even heard her say that release date changes were one of the reasons “Fantasy Ride” failed and now they are doing the same thing all over again with “Basic Instinct.” Things are not looking good for Ciara. Even Trent, who is obviously a Ciara fan, had to admit so.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed, but once Ciara makes the announcment on Ustream tomorrow I’ll reserve my judgement. “Ride” is still going strong at radio and once they release “Gimme That” I can see the project really lifting off the ground, and if you ask me August 17th still seems like a reasonable date for the album so I dont really know why they would push it back over a month. But like I said, Ciara announced VIA Twitter that she is going to make an important announcment tomorrow regarding the album so lets just wait and see what she has to say. This is why I love her, she always wants to keep her fans posted on the latest news regarding her projects. TEAM CICI all the way!!

Wow im aslo quite surprised and annoyed. Lets all hope that this is just a rumour and is just something to generate hype. But then again this should be a tactic as the music is already doing so well and hype around ‘Basic Instinct’ is actually quite high. Ride is doing well, I would love to see her promote it more though I wanna see it in the top 20 of the billboard chart and then gimme dat should be released (one of her best that i have heard from her). I already downloaded Ride and I will download th album for my ipod and then buy the actual disc. Luv ya CiCi hope it all works out

Lol. Please do not blame leaking for Ciara’s flop. If Ciara was that big of an artist and was still as relevant as people claim her to be, people would’ve still brought the album like they did for Drake and Eminem. If Ciara would do promo instead of siting on Ustream, There would be an album coming out Aug. 17th.
It would be best to go for October anyway. September is Kanye’s month. He will still do solid numbers even after the T. Swift incident. Not sure about his other artists like Kid Cudi and Big Sean though.

There are definitely pros and cons for when an artist and their team decides to push back an album: the pro is, it gives the artist a little bit of more time to perfect the record, brush up their craft and do some promotion. The con is, it doesn’t garner the anticipation of audience as much as it did. The perfect example of a faltered album that was commerically underestimated is by two prolific artist of the industry who have seemingly disappeared into the background: Ashanti’s “The Declaration” and Brandy’s “Human.” Both albums had excellent production, but lacked heavy promotion. What ever happened to meet and greets with the fans, immediate touring of intimate venues like The House of Blues, and pushing out singles? Artist today have become complacent with their laurels and just sit back and an album to sell itself. Ciara is a younger version of Janet Jackson and has the potential to pull off a great album like her previous effort before Fantasy Ride. However, if she and her team doesn’t get this album together so and get back on the hustle, she maybe one to fade to black as a distant memory…

Never a good thing when an album gets pushed back so many times (see Lil Wayne’s “Rebirth”). IMO, “Evolution” was the last decent album Ciara put out, but I miss the “Goodies”-era Ciara. Now she’s trying too hard to be a sex symbol. She’s starting to look like a female Trey Songz.

Oh well, It was good while it lasted. Atleast she had a very successful Debut, She even used to be a worldwide artist (which is odd since shes a urban act). Her 1st LP spawned 2 #1 Hits & a #2 with ‘oh’ & sold over 3 million (somewhere I read 5 mill but im sure thats inflated). Her sophomore did pretty well too but It went all downhill from there. Now shes just an opening act who releases rubbish, I swear she hasnt had a real song since ‘love sex magic’.
